    CEN Baja boss upgrades - motor

    What is a good motor and Esc to run with this boat? I basically want to make this as awesome as possible.

    Is brushless the way to go? I don't want to go extreme with prices....I'm looking for a good bang for your buck combo or just above if that makes sense.

          540 10L 2,458 RPM / Volt 5mm Shaft (3)

          What does the "10L" mean and why should I go with that over a 9 or 11? Just want to understand, any other motor suggestions?

          And 3s and 4s...I know that is in regards to LiPo batteries, but what does 3s mean? I appreciate all of the help from everyone!

          Lastly what's a good battery charger that won't break the bank?

            On the swordfish, is that a simple plug and play?

              Feigao 540 - 10XL will that work? Found a used one on here? Is it a better motor (power)?

                10L = number of winds & length of the motor can. It's a "L"ong motor and the 10 wind gives it the 2,458 RPM's per volt.

                3S = 11.1V lipo / 4S = 14.8V lipo. one lipo cell is 3.7V so if you have a 3S (three cell) 3.7 x 3 = 11.1V

                3S x 10L (11.1V x 2,458 RPM's per volt) = 27,300 RPM's

                If you want 4S (more common) use a lower KV motor than the 2,458kv.

                  The XL will have more torque to swing a bigger prop than the L.

                  10XL = 1,668Kv

                  4S(14.8v) x 1668Kv = 24,700 RPM

                      You keep suggesting larger and larger motors which will all obviously work. That hull is not made for huge speed, just keep it in the mid to high 30's and you will enjoy it. That boat will do fine with any motor 3656 or larger............... I had a Cen aquajet a while back that i had a Feigao 13L in and ran it on 4s.........it was all the hull wanted.

                          kv is the rpm of the motor per volt ...4s lipo= 14.8 v X 2200kv =32,560 rpms.

                            2200kv is rpm's per volt of input...........10 volts = 22,000 rpms. Target range for a 'sport boat' is around 22-26,000 rpms. Racing boats up to around 32,000, and SAW boats 35,000+. That is why Diego offered the 10L on 3s as a suggestion. Personlly i like 4s and 1800-2200kv for my boats in the 26-32" range. Keep askin' questions..................i did for a long time, and still do.

                              First, I want to say that this is a great and friendly forum, and I appreciate all of the feedback.

                              What is the difference with the amps on an Esc mean......is a 180amp better than a 120? Or is it setup related?
