Questions before I build my boat stands

Hey, being fairly new to the marine part of RC, I have a quick question:

I've seen most of you guys have boat stands made of PVC pipe and foam insulation of some type. My question is where is the best place to go to purchase the pvc pipe and what exactly are the foam pieces called that fit over the pvc pipe well (so I don't look like a dummy when I ask at home depot or menards or wherever is best to buy this stuff at) :p

Also, what type of adhesive is best (and cheap) to secure the pieces together? Any recommendations on pipe diameter too?

Hope that's not too many questions.
The general idea of these boat stands is really elementary I realize, and I'll have no problems building once I get the parts. Just want to be sure of what I need before I go to the store & avoid wasting money on unnecessary parts.
I'm planning on using the boat stand(s) for safe transportation as well.

My budget is a bit tight too, as I'm looking to add a second boat to my fleet before long. But it's very important to me to be able to keep them safe first!

    Thanks for any info!

Well I haven't built a stand yet, but I do know that you can buy the piping at Lowes, Home Depot, etc. The black foam pipe insulation (typically used over cold water copper piping) goes by the trade name of "Armaflex". Again, you should be able to pick it up in the same department as the PVC.

The adhesive will be a PVC specific glue (again in the same department), make sure you get the stuff for PVC and not the adhesive for ABS piping. You could also use regular epoxy, but the PVC glue will make the stand really strong, and will set up FAST.

As far as pipe diameters go, well I don't know for sure as I haven't built a stand yet (I just know my way around a big box home improvement store).

Thanks for the reply, definitely useful information in there that's helpful

Gotta say that Van Halen-esque paintjob on the boat in your avatar is great, btw! (Supervee, right?)

Got the "stand" part of my first one done. It's going to be my transport rig as well, so I have another removable portion that I've almost finished with as well. Should keep it safe in the car.

And here you'll see how the rest will fit on & off, just need to figure out some way to secure the pvc pipes together that's still removable. There will be one long piece on top that should work well as a carry handle (atleast that's the idea)

1/2 plywood for mine I also like to make sure the prop has a guard over it.

Can you show me how you're making a boat stand out of plywood?

Is it in a similar style to the small wood ones you just glue together that come with a lot of new boats?

Very cool, you've definitely got some skill to do up a nice stand like that.
Looks much better for display purposes especially
