    New guy introduction and question

This is my first post. Glad to be aboard. I am new to the fe hobby and have very limited knowledge although I have read as much as I can to get the basics. Here,s my question. I have a wildthing 33'' long i built for a nitro motor. I have decided to use it to get my feet wet in fe,s instead. What motor/batt/ecs setup would be right for this boat, and are there any improvements to be made to the basic hull to make it run better. I will not likely be racing I just wat to go really fast...lol but I cant afford the really expensive stuff either.

I will post a pic of the hull soon, it is a bit different from other WT,s built. I did my top to look similar to the seducer hulls.

Hello Kendt and Welcome I seem to remember that one of our forum members ( I think it was Darin) ran a Wild Thing - possibly it was at the '08 Nationals. Hopefully (if I'm right) He'll chime in. Details about your hull & pictures will help.

Here are some pics of the hull thus far. Im wondering if it would benefit from some strakes or steps..002.jpg001.jpg

        Welcome to the forum
a step or maybe two may be a good idea. have you ever run gas/nitro? you said you wanted to go fast, so about 70-80 mph? if so, you might want to look at fiberglassing the hull if it isn't already. one last question, what are you willing to spend? these will all help you decide on a good setup

Yes I have run Gas boats. much bigger and not quite as fast obviously...lol . I could easily glass the bottom, it has been entirely sealed with epoxy once. I was a wee bit worried about the extra weight of glassing since its already a bit heavier than the normal W.T. But if i,ve got lots of power i likely wont need to be concerned.I need to keep the motor and esc around 300.00 range I hope thats enough to get something decent. I have most of the other stuff with the exception of batteries. I also have a mamba max pro and cc 7700kv motor in a car thats is insanly over powered but not sure if either of these are of use for boats.

that would be a good ESC, and a castle 1515 if you could afford it, but that is over 300$ if i'm not mistaken. That ESC goes great with the leopard motors sold here on OSE. 7700KV is much too high for boating, something around the 2000kv range would be nice

That on 4S or 5S in the 2000kv version.
I'm sure others will throw in their opinions as well.

Ya the castle 1515 is 300 bucks on its own so likey out of my range. Is there a huge diference between that and the leopard motor.

the biggest difference is the quality and size.

Im selling off a bunch of stuff i dont use so that will tell me how much I have to work wit. I still would need a charger, batteris etc.

Welcome laddie your cost estimate is not realistic for that size hull, what speed, run time, batteries, and prop? and yes I am the grumpy one on this forum.

The budget I gave was for the motor and speed controller only. I have a few props to start with and the batteries I plan to build a collection over time as money allows. Would the speed controller and leopard motor suggested not be adequate since it easily fits into the budget??

Well I have no idea what speeds would be achievable for this hull without it becoming an airplane. Run times i would like the longest possible but again that would depend on speed. I would like to be able to reach 60mph if thats possible if more is possible even better. Since I wont be racing i will have to pretty much settle for what run time I get at those type of speeds.

Perhaps im going about this the wrong way. What motor and esc,s would allow this hull to run around the 50-60 mph mark. If my budget is to small then I will just have to make it bigger...lol I really just need some direction as far as choices and then i'll figure out what one I can swing.
