    Thrust Bearing Question

What are you guys using to lube the thrust bearing? I'm talking about the one that you mount on the motor shaft between the housing and coupler.

I use marine R/C bearing oil from Boca Bearings - because I have it. Any high quality oil like Marvel Mystery Oil will work well. 3-in-1 is not a high quality oil IMO.

Do you think a good quality grease will work?

What about powdered graphite, like we used on the axles of my sons derby racers in cub scouts?

I am using "Purple Extreme" synthetic lubricant on all of the drive parts.

Sounds good. Where do we get something like that? Does it work on flex shafts?

I found it at a bike show. It was engineered for lubricating metal in salt water applications. Like it better than the grease I was using. Tried it in boats running over 30,000 rpm with no problems. Use a light coating on the flex shaft and bearings. I left the flex in for a week after a run before I pulled it, no rust was found on the flex cable. Wiped the moisture/purple residue off and it was shiny.

We have a big bike race here annualy. They usually give away free samples. I loaded up on it.
