    1000 feet?
why would one need so much range?!
Are there courses so far away from shore that it requires that range?
If you are having trouble with Ovals, that is an issue and your radio options and/or receiver/antenna setup should be reviewed. If you run at SAWs then range may or may not become an issue, it'll depend on antenna size, hull material, your height from the water... bunch a little problems if you don't have a decent range radio.

Lads, range in RC systems has a lot to do with your local geographical constraints. All I wish for is no glitching within a decent range. I still think that tried and true quality FM SYSTEMS are hard to beat.

But once you go SS you'll never look back!!

I love whenever someone looks at me with a worried look and asks what channel are you on as I throw my boat out??

          I answer: "Channel 2 Billion 400 Million!!"

THEN you should see their faces!!

That's cool. My view is if it is working, then great. If not, then try something else.

The major reason I prefer with 2.4SS or PCM is so I have a failsafe just in case the RX does lose contact with the TX. At least in this way I have some predictability of the status. i.e. throttle goes to OFF, rudder goes neutral. AM or FM is a crapshoot if you get a hit. Totally unpredictable.

I wasn't saying I use AM to you like in a negative way if that's what it looked like, I was just saying lol to your post then stating what my condition is on the matter. It's all so confusing. lol

Nope I got you. I think as long as your are happy with what you have and how it works, then it's all good!!

I was just explaining why I run what I do and did not mean to imply that what others are doing is not.
