I have had one Futaba and personally didnt like it. But i have held the Airitronics Mx-3 and have checked it out but i do not have one . There is no difference in price at Hobby People. If u want more memory settings then go for the Airitronics . The only thing it doesnt have is a servo reverse switch. But it is up to u but personally i would go for the Airitronics.
Of course I will say the 3PM FASST. All 7 of my boats have it and it has been rock solid for me. I use both the 603FF and 603FS receivers and both work well. The 603FF has a single external antenna, the 603FS has a second internal antenna. I have found no functional difference in boats.
This radio does everything I need done in a boat radio.
Enough, and that is not meant to be as glib as it sounds. I have not come across a pond large enough to get out of range. About 900 to 1,000 feet away is as far as I can get anywhere I run and I have not had any issues.
Ehhhh you know I would have gone with the airtronics radio....but there DSS system from what I read is the same as the Horizon's Spektrum brand DSS systems. I have had several of those and I was never able to get proper range from the radios. Thats a DX2, DX3, M11 with Spektrum, and then I tried the Spektrum Pro module/receivers in the M11 too, same thing no range.
After switching to the Futaba 3PM 2.4Ghz .....I have never looked back. It might not have all the features of the MX3, but for boating IMO it has all the features you need. After spending lots of money with Spektrum and more or less getting screwed, I will never purchase another brand radio again. Never have I had a real issue or problem with this radio....It just works....Like it should.
EDIT: And yeah bills right imo....After 900 to 1000 ft I cannot even see my boat!!!!!! But same thing with me, I have never had a issue with the range of this radio. Not even on deadish batterys.

nice video and gret music , range was fantastic , overall to me most 2.4 specktrum despite brands work pretty well , i`ve seen a fair share of glitches in JR, FUTABA AND SPEKTRUM from the guys using them here , but overall no major hiccups and
it all boils down to how much your pocket can stretch and indiviual pref..
PS; what boat were u running on the video ? plane well
For the life of me, I can never understand why "Range" is such a big issue?
When running most boats over a coulpe of hundered feet away, its hard to tell whether its coming or going and depth preception is very difficult,,,if not dangerous.
I have never had any "Range" issues on my AM's , FM's, or now Spektrum's.
People need be responsible and keep the boat within safe operating distance where you can see and judge how the boat is performing.
Radio range should never be an issue. And if it is its usually a case of weak batteries or poor routing of antennas etc.
Well now arent I Mr. bad example. Running to far from or to close to shore. Driving through a camera lcd display. Maybe I should edit all my videos with a disclaimer???
LOL....dudes....im not saying I was getting like 300-400 ft or more like what the video looks like. My spektrums went around 150ft, and thats it. Boat, or car/truck, did'nt matter. I never could get any of them to go more than that without the damn thing fail-safing on me. If I crept out of the shoreline with the radio getting my feet wet, sometimes I could get it to pick the signal back up....but that was more when I ran nitro, and by then the carb was closed and the motor was stalled. I have tried it all....talked to horizon.....everything.
as I said before. No range.
