A Bad day's boating. Emotional roller coaster

I got all my lipo's and boats ready last night and woke up full of enthusiasm, I quickly got the kids off to day care, kinder and shcool and when getting back in the car a few drops of rain started on the windscreen, not to be set back I rushed home and started getting all my gear over to the lake and the rain past. I ran my Df35 pirate first and it ran like well, a little wet but I figured I'd just move the batteries back a little next run, on opening the hatch I notice a heap of water inside the hull, after a little inspection I found that a cable tie on the motor cooling can was too tight and had caused the silicon to split, no big deal, easy fix, I dried up all the water and fixed the leak.
Then I ran my titan to try out my tapeless sub hatch, great, the boat ran like a dream, good speed, handling and cool temps. Upon opening the hatch I was stocked to see that not a drop of water had gotten into the hull, great.
Time for my second run with the Pirate, I hooked up a couple of new nano tech's, moved them back a tad more than my first run and through it in, ran a fraction wet again but was very stable at 95kps, at about 4 minutes into the run the lvc show it's head so I bought it in, this time upon opening I noticed that horrible smell, after a look I found the little 7/32 brass bushing that I use in the end of the 1/4 stuffing tube had come loose and had been spinning causing enough heat to melt the heat shrink that cover the tube, no huge problem but hey, I was planning on running this boat the most today and with the weather looming above and my "free time" running lower, I figured I'd put the Pirate aside for the day and get back to the titan until I run out of 4s lipo's.
Whilst set the titan up for another run, I noticed the postie comming in the drive so I kept a close watch as I've been waiting a month for my cats to arrive, I watched as he carried a huge rectangular box into the office, Let's just say I was very happy. Instead of rushing over, I got the titan ready and through it out, and again she was running like a dream until about 3minutes into the run it just stopped from full throttle, I pumped the throttle one quick burst and could still hear a bit of noise so I guessed I may have broke a shaft or something, paddle time. After onening her up I found no driveline issues, just what I'm guessing is a dead bearing or something wrong in the motor, when I use a little throttle all I hear and see is the motor shaft shuttering/vibrating, damn, but oh well, that 1515 2200kv copped a hammering in a 15-16lb truck before it went into the boat, time to try a lepard.
I packed up and carried everything back over to the house and quickly tidied my stuff so I could go unpack and admire my new Areomarine 42" sprint cat with carbon reinforcment and water damaged mean machine. I got the box open and was happy to see the MM with no damage that won't be fun to fix, I got excited with the thought of stripping this thing down and rebuilding it the way I want, it's going to be a fun project. My emotions soon hit yet another low point when I got the sprint cat out and discovered that Aeromarine had sent me a hull with nice big solid rails that have destroyed all my build plans for this boat, gutted and to top it off they forgot to put in the 2 struts and couplers that I payed for. I've had a custon twin floor mount made that I'm not sure will fit and I'm stuffed if I know how I'm going to fit all my planned gear into this hull with those rails wasting all the space. I may cut them out, I'm sure I'll find a way eventually, Im stuck with it now.
If anyone looking for a good, cheap and fun project you should try to pick up one of these mean machines from Aeromarine.
here's a few pic's of the MM and the "other one"

I figured that'd be the easiest way, I just wish I got what I wanted so I didn't have too. I don't mind gutting the MM and rebuilding but the 42" was suppose to be my pride and joy, not a refit
Thanks for the tip mate, I'll try to get over it already

Danny, it is a bit of extra work but I am sure if you do as Jason says it will not take long to get those rails out. Aeromarine have been around a while and have a good reputation so I am sure they will send the forgotten parts. No one likes it when these things happen but it seems that if you live in Aussie you often have to suck it up and make the most of it.
It sure was not your day at the lake either. You probably are right about a bearing in the motor but just check the timing on the motor. I say that as I once had an expensive YGE Navy 200 esc change the timing all by itself and set it way too high and destroyed a 1521 1D motor. I had the same symptoms from the motor. Stuttering and a bad vibration that you could feel from one end of the boat to the other. I put the motor on a Hydra esc and it would not put a ripple on your beer but after I opened the motor I decided I would not risk running it again because of the internal damage. I hope it is something as simple as a bearing but I just thought I would mention what happened to me.
          Good luck with it all,
          Paddy

          BTW, Nice MM

Yeah Tony is a great bloke and knows what he is talking about when it comes to model boats. He is more into gas boats and has held several records and titles over the years.
Shipping costs from the USA are getting way out of hand and often the postage is as much as the item you are buying. US postal service is doing their country a disservice when it comes to overseas sales.

Millzee is busy fixing boats so he wont notice that we have hijacked his thread

Mate I have got it to 64 mph but I have a HV esc coming to let me run some more cells. I think 75 mph will be no problem.
Here is a video of the Black Douglas in action.

BTW Andym gave me his old CF Seaducer and that boat looks like the goods to me. Already hit 62 mph on just it's second trip to the lake and running wet. Again the HV esc will be used in this one to blow 72 mph into my history books (nothing like positive thinking).

I tried on many occasions to call tony and never seemed able to get through, I wish I was a more patient guy, I could have just kept calling but hey, thats me, I seem to always find a way to get more egg on my face. I looked at his site and from there I was unsure weather I'd be able to get a hull with no rails and get the bottom carbon reinforced, then I thought that he'd have to order it and so on, so on, who cares Caught myself baffling again. I'll deal with it, anyone sell carbon cloth in Oz????

I'm thinking I'll need a new motor for my titan, I will check the timing thow, that would save a few bob if it was just that but it happened at wot so

This Mean Machine is fun already, helping me get over my day, I've been like Errol Flynn, everthing I touch, I fu**. I've pulled everything out and have it back to a bare hull in just over 1/2 hour, now I see why everyone goes on about rtr build quality

Carbon cloth in OZ ha ha , good luck , i have looked all over melbourne & cant find any , Kintec Racing sells it , i need some for my twin Avenger Pro hull im building for saw running , aiming for 160kms + .. im like you when i want some i want it NOW ! but OZ sucks for finding FE boat stuff & if you do find it costs 3 x as much as it does in the us

Paddy , the black douglas is looking good mate ! there are few quick nitro Seaducer hulls running at cherry lake & i was impressed how they handled , there was a big 40 something inch hull running 90 + mph , then arron from Oz spec turned up with a rigger that was doing 170 + km passes which blew me away !!!!! well thats what radar gun said ...

Dude, I'd just buy up a nice rail mount. The rails make the hull very rigid!

I will receive the williams mount next week and I'm hoping I can make it work, I've looked at his website and similar mounts look like they are rail mounts withs sidewalls made that the mount bolts to, I hope this is the case at least that'll only be $20 wasted. After a nights sleep, I'm starting to think of a few ways I can make it work and I think the rails will make it stronger, just tricker for working on. I managed to organize some carbon cloth, hope to have it in a week or so

Turns out the titan motor problem wasn't a motor problem after all, I went to store charge the lipo's and one kept flashing "connection break", I put it into my truck and at first it was dead but after about a minute of throttle inputs it came to life so I got my son to drive it around for a few minutes and then the storage charge work like a charm. I just hooked another lipo up to the titan and the problem wasn't there, , putting 2&2 together I realise that this must have caused my issue. Good things happening today
Me and my boy's have been out the shed building boat stands which have come up well, I decided to re-design the other two while we were at it.
