    Painting ISSUES!!

Well this is the last time I use Krylon spray paint!
I have had the same issue happen to me twice now once with red paint and this time with yellow paint.

I primed a hull that I sprayed a dust coat on then a first coat.
Waited 24hrs and then applied a second coat which decided to alligator in a few spots.

Not sure why this keeps happening??

I have never had any issues before but from now on I am using dupli color which I have never had any issues with.

Any ideas what could be causing this??

If its alligatoring then its because the substrate you are spraying on to has surpassed its window of recoatability.

Lehmans terms: You waited too long before applying the next coat/stage, you need to sand/scuff it before applying more.

**Sometimes spraying a coat too wet can cause this too.

Before when I was painting my boat with the red paint I sanded it first and then painted and still had the same issue.

I didn't put it on to wet so don't think that is the issue.

It's crazy I have never had issues like this before but recently with these 2 hulls.
It is causing a lot of xtra work and is a PITA!!

Now I have to wait till tomorrow 2 try to sand out the spots and try to re-coat it and hope it doesn't do it again!!

If you try Molotow Premium this will not happen. Paints onto anything, even when wet, doesn't run unless you are a complete idiot and leaves no dust finish. This stuff is wacky!

A friend did a few of his SV's this winter, can't say humidity was his problem, did it in the middle of a Canadian winter, followed the directions exactly, re-coated within the allowed window, some colours went alligator some didn't. There was no rhyme or reason, was all Krylon Fusion from start to finish.
I have used dupli-color with 2 part urethane clear, and base coat/clear coat, personally I have no reason to change, these systems have worked flawlessly for me for many years.
The last paint issue I had was with that airbrush paint, I don't think I heated it enough to cross link.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Two spots did it not the entire piece I was painting.
They were decent sized areas that did it.

Can I ask where on the hull? Does it get covered up? Krylon can be a real pita. It seems like the less prep work I've done with that stuff the better the results lol

I recently painted a cat using Dulpicolor acrylic laquer(can't spell) auto match paint in 8oz cans. It turned out nice for rattle can paint. Here's a link:

I don't know, it wasn't my boat, not my paint job either, he used exactly what was recommended to him for the SV.
                        Like I said I like base/clear or laquer/clear.

I always always always have this issue w/ Krylon. Its humidity. Not your prep, not your technique. I sent an email to Krylon about a year ago when I had all kinds of issues. I can dig up the email if youd like, I think I still have it. I do recall her name being Julie. She even stated its a humidity issue and refunded me all my money I had spent on trying to get the project corrected. Krylon sucks and I will never try using it again.
