So Santa brought my son a Carrera 1/32 slot car track, its quite cool, but Santa never thought about where he would put it. I have no room except my garage which is already full with stuff. What I would like to do is build a 8'x8' table that I could raise to the garage ceiling when he is done using it. I have no problem building the actual platform for the track. But do need suggestions on how to life and keep it flush with the ceiling? Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking pulleys but I'm open for suggestions.

Since you have all of the RC supplies, I think you should use some 700SC motors, controller, remote control, ropes, pulleys on a DC supply to raise and lower it.ReddyWatts fleet photo

I've seen pics of train layouts where they were hoisted to the celing(using ropes etc.) and held there using hooks and eyes(table had fold down legs for actual use so the ropes could be gotten out of the way) hth

I built a HUGE "N" scale train setup and used folding leggs like a banquet table would have. could fold them up and lean it against the wall in a closet or out in the garage. Good luck. I santa brought my son a small set of slot cars as well. being only 2 1/2 he doesnt quite get it but loves it!Comment

unrelate item
Tie 2 ropes or small cables to each end and use cranks they use on small 14' boats to get on the boat trailer. They have locks on cranks. Just put 1" x 4" boards under to help support the 3/8" ply from warping. The cranks can be mounted to the ceiling furtherest from garage door. Now for legs like the guy said use like card table like legs on all 4 corners and 2 going down the middle to keep it flat.Comment

Slot Car Track
Hey Steve,
I actually owned a Slot Car raceway business about 25 years ago in Pennsylvania.
If you have the option , this puzzle get a lot easier if you have some wall space.
The platform would connect to the wall with hinges. It would be slightly offset away from the wall to accommodate the track thickness. It would hinge upward and toward the wall and lock into a storage position. You can also put 2x4 legs on the outer edge that would also be hinged, and would swing inward when raising the platform for storage.
Just my 2 cents, Good Luck.

Thanks for all the help guys! Unfortunately I don't have the wall space or that would have been my first choice. The walls are covered with shelves. I moved from a larger house to a smaller house with less basement space, so now everything's in boxes along the walls.
Taylor will you sell if Derek can snap a picture of it and email it to me?Steven Vaccaro

why dont u do a cable and pully system. Have a table with fold down legs and rings on the corners to clap the cable on. so then if u want to move it just unhook it and away u go.Failure is the First step to SUCCESSComment

Steven,
I've been also looking around for some solution because my daughter also received a Carrera but a smaller 1/43 Go! I was thinking of a kind of box made of two plywood board, in your case something around 4'x6' each, that can be stored under a bed and once you open it, it's a 8'x6' board, when packed it's only 2 or 3" thick! you can also imagine that this "box" is stored verticaly like Table Tennis table with skates so that you can move it around!Comment

Ocean I will be going with the pulley system.
