I have been using A123 cells for a while now in my brushless LST2. It has a Feigao 8XL and a Hydra 120. I am running 6S2P and the voltage is nearly identical to a 5S LiPo. They seem to drop to around 3 volts under load. I also like the flat discharge curve...they go all out until the very end. Balancing is also not as necessary as with a LiPo. They almost self balance.

I am happy with them over all.

i tested them 2 years ago in rc boats and as long as you're running them [2p] and not over [80 amps] constant they have thier place...

safe, quick charging, and a long cycle life...

in rc boats... for scale and sport running they are a viable option

I'm using my Super Brain 989 in power supply mode to charge A123 cells. In power supply mode I can set the voltage and amperage to output at. For a 5s A123 I set it to 18v (3.6vX5=18) and 6a (the best it can do at 18v) and the Super Brain 989 charges at a constant 6a until it reaches 18v and then at a constant 18v until the amps drop to zero. Several have been using the 989 this way. Other non A123 chargers may be able to do the same. I used my Eagle tree logger to monitor the charge. The battery was not completely discharged.

            A123 Battery NewBe Input

I was just ready to order LiPo's and started ready this thread. I am just finishing, if I ever get the time, a 29 Titan with turbo tran, 120 hydro and a fer. 9XL.
I am looking at a pair of Hypersonic 4600 6.6V. Here are the specs.
            Voltage 6.6
            Capacity 4600V
            Max C-rate cont. 30C
            Max C-rate pulse 60C
Max Current cont. 69A limited by connector
            Max Current pulse 138A
            Max temp.160F/71'C
            size 135mmx28mmx53mm
            Weight 310g

Any thoughts on these for running sport??

A123 are very, very good for sport running. No worries about fires and if you take care of them, 1,000 cycles.

Adding some A123 classes in NAMBA or the IMPBA would be an excellent way to go in my opinion.
