IMPBA or NAMBA?

Home owners insurance (check you policy) should cover you also.

I lean towards IMPBA since those are the established clubs in my immediate area. Besides they don't make wear a silly stopwatch when pitting. I will say that belonging to both organizations has its benefits too. IMPBA is a more firm when it comes to their safety regs. But it usually depends on the club itself to monitor safety.

I'm glad to hear some guys sticking up for IMPBA.
I'm from NAMBA country and take much pride in it, but I go greatly appreciate
the racing IMPBA has provided the hobby.

Another neat thing with NAMBA (I'm sure IMPBA has it too) is if you find a pond with a reluctant owner you can actually purchase additional protection for that owner for the pond. .

I've not had an occasion personally to use the insurance but I know it has been used. I hope I never do need it. Isn't that the nature of insurance though? Sucks to pay and never use it but sucks a LOT more to need it and not have it.

The rules for electric are close but not quite the same. IMPBA is a little behind NAMBA on the rule tranformation curve at the moment. That seems to always be the case though. One or the other is slightly behind.

I'm a NAMBA slappy so I try not to be too hard on IMPBA.

NAMBA is a big advantage, especially if you are trying to get a public pond approved and insured for model boating.
This was presented to the Parks & Recs Department by our local club and they approved a local, public pond for boating due to the NAMBA insurance.

This is great guys, we would like to do this right and hope to build a club up over a couple of years, We have no problems with our current area but would like to ensure it stays this way, by joining a governing body we hope to give it a little more legitimacy.
Our current area is under the jurisdiction of the Trent-Severn Waterway system, lucky for us they are the ones who run the locks on the river for full sized boats, so they understand the appeal of boating, our pond is right next to one of the locks.
We have picnic tables, washrooms and lots of area for "pits".
It's also located on one of our scenic drives along the river. We have an very big bay to run in.
Being in Canada we can run pretty much anywhere we want to, I've run nitro boats right downtown before. Just as long as you're on Crown Land you can almost do what you want!

Ultimately it's up to us racers to know the rules and the organizers to hold us to it. So often we get to having fun and forget these buggers are dangerous.

So true, new boaters and old twits like myself sometimes forget the pontential to harm a person with a boat that has gone out of control.

Years ago I lost a 3.5 tunnel, AM radio got hit, the boat took a hard left and creamed the bank at full throttle, nobody was near the crash thankfully.
I could just imagine what would happen when somebody t-bones a full sized boat with a 36" "toy" doing 60mph!
Last year I believe a kid was killed by a rc boat, hit in the chest and impaled by somebody running where people were swimming!
When I was young and owned nothing I didn't think about things like this, now I'm old and have a house and things I'd like to keep.
Insurance is cheap, and I'd like to cover our butts!

We saw Doug Jr make landfall with his 61 second heat rigger at the 09 NATS. I am SO thankful there was nobody near that. Ran up a sandy beach. There was no netting in that spot.

You do what you can to monitor the shore line but people walk up when you're doing other things. ............OH LOOK! THAT'S COOL! Let's run right to the waters edge and watch!

One guy got in the water on us between heats. We even had to have a women removed by authorities once. She refused to move from the shore. Promised to lawyer up if we hit her while she was sunbathing.

The one thing I like about the Namba insurance is that it is a primary coverage policy, which means it is applied before your homeowner's policy is needed.
