I wont recommemd a X6xx props in a single motor cat, just too much pitch, too slow accel, too hard to get on plane, and too brutal to the equipments. Start your next try from X442, probably X445 following.
I've used more than 10 180As in my and my buddies' setups, all 6S from 58cm mono to 142km/h cat, zero problems except 2, one was destroyed by a reverse polarity connection, the other was killed by water.
It's obvious your a fan of the swordfish controllers, but thats not the issue here. You dont have to BUY the reason the speedo let go was heat,but if the speedo was 125f the caps were a lot hotter.
I'm not just "a fan of the swordfish controllers". There are plenty of other controllers out there that are as good or better, I was simply giving the OP an affordable option in HV controllers.
I assume when someone says their ESC is a certain temp, they have temped the caps, but if not, at 125F ESC the caps shouldn't be above maybe 140F. If they are, the problem goes back to his batteries.
Since the op ran on 5s for a short period and wasn't happy, I highly doubt he will be happy if he goes in the direction of a milder setup. If he wants to run 6s, especially with a decent sized prop, he should invest in a HV contoller. That's just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own, but I can assure you that 30,00RPMs with a s225 is far from an un-doable setup. Run a 240HV ESC and good 2p batteries and it should run all year. Many others will tell you 6s is pushing it on a LV controller. Doesn't mean it can't be done, but it can be done with more consistant results on a 240HV.
Javier, were you running an external bec? When we run the 180's on 6s we disable the speedo esc. Seems to help the esc from having to do to much extra work.

Is there a prop chart or something to go by when selecting a prop based on motor, voltage, etc.?
There is a program on here that works fairly well it is called "fecalc" , it takes a little time to figure it out, but once you do it is a good tool. Search the forums, lots of info on it.
125F? I wouldnt call that a high temp. If an esc cant run at 125F, I wouldnt run it. I've ran my Swordfish 240 at a higher RPM, pushing a bigger hull, with a s240 and x457 props, so I wouldnt be worried about a s225.
He says it fried 5 SECONDS into running it after switching batteries...that doesnt sound like temp build up from a 47mm prop. Maybe a short would do that...or POOR quality soldering in one of your components.
Im not buying that this esc baked at 125 degrees and was gone in 5 minutes. And I dont think Ive ever ran ANYTHING where the esc didnt reach 90F. Unless it was a very short run in cold temps. I have had escs over that just sitting in the boat in the summer, before even running.
I'm gonna have to agree here, if what he says is true that it blew in 5 seconds obviously it wasn't the prop, although i'm sure the prop would have eventually toasted it too!! Looking at the pics of the melted Esc it does appear the heat started at the wires, i'd be a little curious to know if the motor-ESC connection was at fault???
