    slicing and splicing

    hi all,

i had 2 mishaps early this spring from not securing my on/off switches on 2 esc's..i have a turnigy 180 and a swordfish 240 with the wires that have been cut from getting into the shaft coupler while at speed...i hate to throw these things out..what is the best way to reconnect the tiny black wires to repair these esc's...if i cannot do it then i will have to put them in the swap shop for real cheap...there are no heat shrink connectors small enough to make a good connection..i am sure these esc's are fine if i can reconnect the wires

You got a picture for us to look at Rip? I think it should be no problem.

The swordfish 240 is not repairable. I will take it off your hands for 50-bucks!!

Take the switch apart and solder the wires directly to the switch Rip.

I agree with Smock. If you don't wanna do that a less clean looking way would be to slide some heat shrink tube over the cut wires, solder and shink tube over the connections. Smocks idea is much more clean looking tho.

Id ditch the switch and solder both wires together.

Me too, cut em real short twist together and solder, or ditch the wires altogether and put a solder bridge on the board.

Yep.No need for a switch, unless its just a personal preference.A friend of mine has a CC Sidewinder in a SC truck and it kept glitching and wouldnt run full throttle. He called Castle, and they said to cut the 2 on/off switch wires and solder them together.Sometimes the switch is what causes problems with esc's.Plus, theyre just not a nessecity anyway.

I agree, ditch the switch and solder the 2 wires together or get another switch from radio shack spst and your good to go

Where did you get a Turnigy 180 with a on/off switch? Did the first gen or car versions come with a switch? I have never seen one? Sounds like a cool feature. All my MGM speedos have them. It makes it nice to have that feature cause you can wire the switch function to the outside of the hull making it easy to disable the boat upon removal from the water. Then you peel off the tape, take the batt leads off, yada yada.

sorry it was not the on/off it was the main red/white/ black lead on the turnigy..i have not tried using the kwik switch mount outside the hull yet. i know a lot of boats have them on here but i get worried about water getting into them somehow
