Do you want to make a few SAW passes and bring it in to check the GPS? What you want makes a BIG difference on how you rig the cat, and some of the suggestions above will not meet some goals.

My SprintCat 40/60 runs a top end 6S setup and runs in the low 60s in race water. It will finish 8 laps on the 1/6th mile course with ease and is very competitive, but due to heat buildup three minutes is about tops for run time. That is typical for an FE sprint race setup.

A single motor is the easiest way to go although twins have their advantages. Twins would allow you to run 5S on each motor for a lot of power and still keep you out of the more expensive high voltage speed controllers - but you have to buy two of them. The chief disadvantage of twins is relatively few prop choices.

But I have a strong recommendation first. I know from plenty of experience with gas guys transitioning to FE that starting with a high power boat is not a good idea. Making what is really a simple wiring mistake can cost you hundreds of $$$ in a split second. Most gas guys have a lot of trouble keeping water out of their hulls, and since electronics and water don't mix the result is often costly damage.

Unless you have an experienced successful FE boater nearby to help you hands-on with the build, I highly recommend that you get a more simple FE boat first to learn about running an FE boat. Then once you have made the mistakes you can begin your high power SprintCat build. A good choice is the ProBoat Miss Geico RTR cat. This is a good entry level boat which you can upgrade for a lot more speed, or sell later without taking a big loss. Please think about it. And welcome, I have run your props for years and won a lot of races with them!
I hear ya. I do like the looks or the Geico boat I will think about it as you are right there is a learning curve thanks chris

Good choices Chris. I set up my first MeanMachine with the 9XL motor on 4S packs. A 120 amp speedo should be enough as long as you don't get too greedy on prop size. I ran an m545 with that setup and had mid/high 40s with enough battery (6600 mAh total) to run 7 laps on the big course. Probably could have done plenty more but never tried it.

Go 4s with the 9xl, when you want more speed down the road just drop in a leopard 4074 2200kv or a 1515 castle/neu or 1515 1y neu, then you can still use your 4s packs and those motors will be a perfect drop in upgrade.... I'd go with a larger esc then the 120 as it wont be as up to the task of upgrades... Or 5s on the 9xl...

4S will be safe as 5S would be more for a SAW setup. The props are Prop Shop 8015's that were sent to me to be modified.

Hey guys, like others have said Chris (dasboata) is a great guy! He has been helping me out in a huge way with props and rudders. It was his props and rudder that got my 54 Fountain to break the 50 MPH mark, and she would have hit 60 if I didn't loose a shaft and prop.

He is super prompt with answering emails and shipping me parts.

                          Thanks again Chris!

Like you I'm not new to RC boats but I am new to fast electric. These guys here know a lot about this stuff and have helped me out, I'm sure they will get you going.

The Turnigy 180 marine is a good choice but I would go 30 - 35C on the lipos.
