What is your budget, this will be expensive, as you are looking at high quality motors, ESCs, batteries, etc.

hey video200;
thats the way all the aeromarine cats handle.
if they dont, then the owner has really messed something up.

Batteries $200, ESC $200, motor $300, Hardware $200 and that is budget stuff, apart from the motor... plus charging equipment

I am trying to copy Rumdogs build also.
I have two sets of motors Castle 1520's and 1518's. (only using one set at a time ). motors and batteries mounted low in the sponsoons.
Will be running 6s 5000Mah . I have X442 and x447 counter rotating props.
Mostly done, but cant try it out till spring (water is frozen solid here).
Home built motor cooling jacket & motor mount for the CC motors. They mount to the 4 inch rails.
Home built rudder and stingers.
Home built cooling block for cheep chineese 200 amp ESC's.
I am just starting out in FE, Rumdog & others here are the experts.

Chris I think I'd consider a single motor like the Neu 1527 1Y and run it on 6s2p.
The results seem to be mixed with the high volt ESCs. I run Shultze controls in my HV applications but they are a bit pricey.

I'm sure some others will chime in here soon.
Good luck with your project,
I'll send you a PM on cells.

Hey Chris welcome to the OSE,
Another low budget option would be to buy one of the Castle 1717 motors currently on sale and use a Turnigy or similar 180A controller on 5S2P. A single motor might be able to get you to those speeds without breaking the bank. For budget minded set-ups, its hard to beat Turnigy lipo packs.
Another option would be to buy two 1717's or two 1520's from Castle's sale page and use the T180A esc's. You could probably get away with one 5s or 6S pack per motor if you choose a high capacity pack.
As soon as you go over 5S, the controllers get pretty pricey. If this is your first FE build stick with something below 6S which will keep the budget in check.
Some prices to consider;
Castle 1717: $70 per motor while they last
Turnigy 180A esc; $90 per controller
Turnigy lipo packs range from $50 to $100 per pack depending on te number of cells, capacity and discharge rate.
Don't forget about a good charger, I would recommend the Hyperion Duo. They run about $250.
So for a twin set-up;
Castle 1717's x2=$140
Turnigy 180 x2= $180
Turnigy 5S 5000mAh packs x4= $312
Hyperion charger: $250
for a grand total of $882 plus a servo and connectors and your are right at your budget.

...I want to build an AM 36" sprint cat electric not looking to brake the bank, here, but I am looking for good stuff that is easy to use I would like to go 70mph..
My SprintCat 40/60 runs a top end 6S setup and runs in the low 60s in race water. It will finish 8 laps on the 1/6th mile course with ease and is very competitive, but due to heat buildup three minutes is about tops for run time. That is typical for an FE sprint race setup.
A single motor is the easiest way to go although twins have their advantages. Twins would allow you to run 5S on each motor for a lot of power and still keep you out of the more expensive high voltage speed controllers - but you have to buy two of them. The chief disadvantage of twins is relatively few prop choices.
But I have a strong recommendation first. I know from plenty of experience with gas guys transitioning to FE that starting with a high power boat is not a good idea. Making what is really a simple wiring mistake can cost you hundreds of $$$ in a split second. Most gas guys have a lot of trouble keeping water out of their hulls, and since electronics and water don't mix the result is often costly damage.
Unless you have an experienced successful FE boater nearby to help you hands-on with the build, I highly recommend that you get a more simple FE boat first to learn about running an FE boat. Then once you have made the mistakes you can begin your high power SprintCat build. A good choice is the ProBoat Miss Geico RTR cat. This is a good entry level boat which you can upgrade for a lot more speed, or sell later without taking a big loss. Please think about it. And welcome, I have run your props for years and won a lot of races with them!ERROR 403 - This is not the page you are looking for
