    Proboat tip FYI

Some of you may already be aware of this. I was one who was not and paid a small price. Trying to remove a set screw out of the coupler on a proboat motor often seems like and endless task the ends up w/ a drill or dremel. I went the way of a drill a couple days ago and ended up with a 1/8 drill bit in one side of my finger, thru and out the other. Its not comfortable, dont try it.

Apply a heat gun or soldering iron to the coupler. PB uses some type of thread lock on thier grub screws. Looking at it, I would never have known, as there was no evidence of it protruding from the top of the threads. I judt thought it was cranked on thier super tight. I had another Proboat motor I got from a member who sent it w/ the coupler b/c he could not get it off. Boomer was kind enough to share this info in another post of mine about heat. I tried it on the other motor and w/ in 20 seconds, the coupler was off. I feel its something PB should state in thier literature in the maintenance section or something...

Anyway, just for those who didnt know or didnt think to try it

A good tip Scott, thanks. Another good idea is to use a vice to hold the coupler (or whatever has a screw) when trying to loosen a tight screw and especially when drilling. A small clap-on vise is cheap and should be part of any serious FE boater's tool box.

Bottom line, we all need to take steps not injure ourselves. A small burn from a hot drop of solder is one thing, but drilling a hole through a finger and risking permanent damage is something else. Be careful out there.

Best part is, I had a vice within 18 inches of where I was working. Just took the short cut and tried to do it in the boat real quick. I think weve all been there, just didnt think about it cause I'd done things like that so many times. Oh well, Lost that battle, still winning the war though

Good tip tiqueman. Funny, I never thought of using a soldering iron.

On this topic, I have made a request to the ProBoat team to ask the manufacturer to stop using loctite on this part. We'll see what happens.

I have encountered this "locktite" several times with other horizon hobby products and even traxxas products.
I believe it to be a simple assembly error, instead of using locktite they are using thick CA or something similar.
With my 8ight-e the diff pinion couplers were literally glued to the pinion and required heating, with a soldering iron in my case. The set screw came out, but the coupler would not let go because it was glued on.
Also had a problem with a traxxas stampede vxl, one wheel nut was glued on and in the process of trying to remove it I killed a hex and spindle.
Whatever this is, it has no place on an r/c vehicle

Nice recommendation by someone who actually will have some pull on the subject. Thanks Darin "Yoda"
