LarryDrifter; just cut a piece of water line hose about 3/16" in length and nudge over cable between s/tube and coupler. Make extras for tool box.

      Hey ..... That's my Idear. .
I like to use cleaned out rifle brass that's not going to be reloaded usually 7.62x39 brass. After cleaning out with brakleen, I melt about an 1"-1.25'" of solder in it with a butane pencil torch so th he solder is superheated & really runny. Dip the flex in it after cutting & chamfering for about 5 seconds, then pull it out & hang vertical to cool. Use gloves cause there's a lot of heat transfer up the flex. Keep the flame on the brass while dipping. The solder will run thru the flex & will run off with little to no excess on the shaft. They still have good balance too ....

I stopped soldering the shaft ends years ago, just cut the end off clean with a cutting wheel. Then take that same end and hold it lightly against bench sander spinning and rotating it to give a nice rounded end instead of the raw cut ends and they won't unravel.
Same here, although often I will put a drop of Loctite 603 on the end "just in case". Never had one unravel.... but then I only use collets, not set screw couplers.
