How could you even figure that?

Arm lathes use an O-Ring to drive the arm by the laminates it also serves to pull the arm down into machined cutouts as "ways". Plus you are only cutting copper and VERY thin cuts at that.

Ive used a Cobra lathe for 1:24 Slot Cars.

    Never gonna work.

The 7x10 Chinese produced lathe you will be doing GOOD to take .010" cut per side- that is unlikely though. Probably be .005" cuts... Again this is speaking from experience. Of course being a Machinist I want to bury cutters into material to get done faster. If you got time to spare then sure it will work...

Blind wild assed guess. Never seen one. Know nothing about them. To me, all I want is something to drill a hole in a bolt. No hurry.

Well its a lot of money to just drill holes into shafts...

I would just use the machine shop then. Sure it takes time but it saves $$$$.

I was going to build a jig and use a press, but still can't figure out how to get the tolerance right and keep it centered.

So, maybe I'll just do a big batch of them and be done with it. Like a 100 or 2.

Well if you have indicators available to you:

Sweep the table of the drill press in. I know most of the cheaper ones allow you to tilt the table. So get it swept in good.

Then clamp it all down tight. Then build a jig with jack screws. Mount the jig down and use an indicator to sweep the diameter in. Using the jack screws to position it correctly.

The last issue would be if the unit truly drills perpendicular to the table...

It would be a bit of work to build said jig but can be done. You would also want the drill press dedicated to only this task.

Ben, I would do it but in one more week I have to move my parents to VT. Then paint their lake house then move 60 years worth of crap and the sell it. All before winter.

For the rest of you...my site may go down for a while because this has to be done and take care of making sure my 85 yr old parents are taken care of right.

I know you're busy Jeff. No worries. Just trying to find a way to get these done myself.

Not gonna happen though... I can't even find an open lathe in 50 miles.

No way I'm spending $500 to make $50 worth of parts.
