Best place for turn fin on hydro?

Okay i just came across a few hydro hulls. Two of them are functional. Except for turn fins. Whats the best side to put one on? The rudder is on the right side of the hull looking at the rear with a ccw spin prop. I need it on the left side sponson correct? Or would it be better with two, one on each side.

Put the turn fin on the inside side of the way you want to turn
Hydros only turn one way really good
    Right side to turn right
    Left side to turn left

Okay what about running without any turn fins? I see how one would help it turn in one direction by helping keep the sponson hooked in the water. Would it work opposite without any at all or will it just kinda skip along? Never owned hydros only cats.

Okay so now iv'e got a few turn fins made up about 6 inches in length. How long are the turn fins most people run on hydros, Or is it a personal preference thing. Tinker till its right like always?

One is a cheap SeaFire hull, and the other is a UL-1. So far ive made 4 turn fins about half an inch wide and 1 and a half inches long about 1.5mm thick. Angled with the hull. Am i going in the right direction? New to hydros lol i cant learn enough in a day!

No, you are way off base on the dimensions. A UL-1 fin copy will work on both hydros, the dimensions and shape are here:

                  http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...od=dh-aqub9515

Straight fins should be angled no more than 7 degrees from the vertical, angled towards the centerline of the hull.

                  .

Search for the thread I started "hydro turn fin discussion" their is some good info on their. You want it long enough where it doesn't unhook in rough water but not too long. Normally you want it in the middle of cg. But you can move it to suite the cornering effect by moving foe or aft. Hooks and bends are stuff you need to play with.

Thanks for all the good info. I got impatient. lol and made a single turn fin for the SeaFire. It works really well as far as handling in chop and hard fast turns so far. I was racing my BJ around the pond and spanking its tail. One thing i dont like about hydros. You cant drive it slow or it sinks the front end or do i have my COG waaaaay off?
