    1717 in a 43" Hydro

Does anyone have some input of putting a 1717 in a 43" Hydro running 5s and 6s of how you think it may run?
    thanks

If your talking a gas sport hydro then not very good. Hydros of that size run 8 to 10s or more. If your talking a rigger then that might wotk out OK.

You'll need 8 to 10s for any kind of fun in a sport hydro.

I am thinking 36" might be the cutoff for that motor.

you are probably right..it did push my df 35 into the low fifties so i cannot imagine a 40 plus inch boat being able to hit fifty

yes it can on 6s2p.. i did try 6s1p for a long time but the esc got up into the 145 range with an x646 3 blade but athe water temp was 80 plus and it was during a heat wave in maine...propping down a bit would have been a little smarter but i was chasing speed again..

the thing is its a 1580kv motor and its really pushing it on 6s before it becomes an amp hog..trust me its got plenty of oomph but i just do not think it will get to fifty in that big of a hull...did you get the cut throat deal on the 1717? you could always try it and see how it goes and if its not fast enough then you still have a really good motor to push some smaller hulls around with..i have no experience with hydros though so i may be wrong with my speed..but i would think you would need a minimum of 7s to get that big boat to 50...my two cents and sorry for the thread clog earlier...i got a little excited because i have ran the 1717 a lot and i really think its a good motor..it runs super quiet unlike any other motor i have heard

I agree with all of this... its just not a big enough Rotor/can to make the power you need to push a huge hull.... a 1717 is more like a 1521 in size I believe.... more of a 33" mono motor.... or up to say a 36" cat... to really push them hard that is...

It might be the same length as the 1521 but the Diameter makes a difference over the 15 series. I think it will compare more in power to the 1527 but I won't know for sure until I get my 36" PT 45 back in the water. I took out a 1527 1.5D and put the 1717 in its place.

You're going to need a bigger prop than what you can spin that fast on 6s. Its going to take a certain amount of power/watts to spin your prop, and with that low of voltaeg you are going to have too high of an amp draw.
Everyone is all over these Castle motors because of the low prices but I still think the Leopard 5692 is a great deal when it comes to power for dollar. The larger boats are better suited with the big can/low kv motors.
