My wife reads a lot of finance books, seems like most married couples dump all the money in one joint account and go from their. We do things a little differenty, she added all the money we spent per month on rent, food, gas, utilities etc... and the money that we bring in together after taxes. She got a percent on how much of our income actually gets spent on bills, then took that percent out of our individual paychecks that way we are both contributing the same percent to joint not just an equal monetary value which would be un-fair because I work more hours and make more money. The left over amount goes into our own personnel accounts. So I get the remaining % plus any overtime goes directly to me, she never sees nor cares to see my personnel account and I don't care to see hers. She knows I spend a lot on my boats, but doesn't b***h because theirs money in the joint and whats mine is mine, whats hers is hers and whats our is ours. Works out AWESOME that way. Very rarely do we ever argue about money. When something changes i.e we are getting a dog on monday the finance chart will change and we will increase the amount we indivdually contribute to the joint. The increase is very minor per check because we both get paid twice a month which means four paychecks per month so a extra $100 a month for us in pet care is only $25 for check individually or less than 1 hour of overtime.

My girlfriend gives me a ton of crap for my boats....
Calls me 8 years old and that I'm a loser. Then again this is one trophy girl so I just ignore her and don't mention that when I play with my boats she spends more $$ on her stupid clothes, purses, nails, hair, etc. I also can't let her touch the boats because she'd probably ram it into my master craft because she has absolutely no idea how much I spendComment

Man reading all this makes me happy my wife enjoys watching, video taping and just hanging out in the garage and at the lake with me. Sometimes when a get a new boat she is more excited then I am to see it in the water, she also like when I explain stuff about it to her. She says it makes me sounds smart and turns her on

If anything my gf would say shes turned off and I sleep with no pillows.... Although she also doesnt like when I explain med school stuff... The only thing she likes is expensive dinners and shopping. Good for you dieselComment

My wife calls me a nerd. When I'm building/tuning, she says I'm tinkering. She even calls my hobby room my tinker room. She has 0 interest in my hobbies. Doesn't bother me though. The only time she really complains is when I splurge a little too much. I practically begged yesterday when I saw the Stiletto was in stock. Looks like I won't have one any time soon. Unless...... I can find some sh@* to sell!Comment

My wife rather cook then to go out and eat and she only shops out of neccesity or if she does she buys stuff from target which is normally priced very reasonabilly. She rather save the money for expensive dinner and shopping and go to do something fun like take a trip somewhere or go to the white water rafting center which is a BLAST. I tripped and feel into a cool chick. She's only 25 so shes outdoor person so she always wants to go on a hike or take a bike ride on the trails and stuff like that.Comment

Yeah I fell into this one... but she fell from a loaded family.. that's my problem. Big expectations with little contribution.. however she does love to run with me! And she can slalom ski... I would love a paper bag if it could slalom ski and this girl rips it up too... I absolutely love that. Of course I'm better but I don't know many who have a hot girl who can ski like she can with meComment

I live in the center of Vermont... For those oF you that like to ski we have some awesome mountains.... Killington, sugarbush, Stowe mountain, smuggler notch, mount snow, Stratton, all within an hour of me:) I'm a skier...Comment

My wife likes that I do this hobby with my son, thinking that I am some how self sacrificing...
Then again, she hasn't run a paypal transaction report..... I've only been doing this hobby for about 7 months and ran a report the other day and nearly had a heart attack...

Before I shut down RC-Hydros.com, she never worried about the money side because the business put extra money in her pocket. She had no idea how much I spent because most of it was business-related. After I shut it down, she was cool with it because she realized that I now made 100% of our living with models instead of just "mad money." She even found the house we live in now, realizing that having a good shop would be an asset for my job at Horizon.
The time portion she doesn't like, though. Last night I didn't get out of the office until 7:00. Tonight I "got off work early" and had to go to the flying field for a turbine event (I'm a club officer) and didn't get home until almost dark. Tomorrow I have a few chores to take care of, but I'll probably be down at the field for at least several hours. It's hard when work and fun blur so badly, but I LOVE my job and she knows it. It's much healthier than when I had the high-stress job in NJ.
I try to make it up by taking the girls on "dates," having extra fun time with my son, and taking her out to eat a lot, but I wish I could do more with them all. I have to figure that part out.
The only real problem is that now she sees how much I spend on "toys" (her word for tools for my job, test airplanes and boats, electronics, etc.).
And it's only 1% of my salary. That's the sad part - I want to spend 2% or more!

Well, after a job for too many years of 24/7/365 this hobby just brings us closer. At least I'm home...or at the lake...or in the man-cave...or at the hobby shop... I am very lucky!... and thankfully I get the credit card bill...Comment
