Well, I have had enough of this 5mm drive system. Going to remove and convert to a wire drive setup. Hoping to use the existing strut, if I can find some bearings for it. Down for a few days.

I've done a complete conversion, changing the strut and stuffing tube with a good amount of success. The stuffing tube comes out easy with a soldering iron and a regular mid sized cat strut fits in the hanger.

I've run it over 60mph, bone dry.

Sorry, that last post makes it look like I'm bragging. Meant to add, let me know if you need any help. I'm familiar with the wire drives and I also have a spare 4mm Coupler/Stuffing Tube/Cable/Strut/Dog/Nut setup if you need.

Okay, here an update on mine....
I ran mine on one Turnigy Nano Tech 2.2. I had two in there but not wired in. 1st run was without GPS and to check for leaks. I ran 2 laps on what I would consider a 1/10 mile course. The boat was very fast and very loose but not in danger of a blow over unless I stay completly on it. I brought it in and had no water. I strapped on the GPS and I think I upset the balance somewhat because it was a bit slower but still fast. I ran .6 miles and peaked at a 36.4 mph. I am charging now to see how many mah I used. I found water in the hull, not much but any is too much for what I like. I found small pin holes where the hulls is joined together up on the sponson, an easy seal. I think some water came in there and possibly up the drive as well. I think water went in because I had the GPS too far forward causing the nose to be lower in the water. I just completed charge 1.31mah back in.

          Plan....
          1. seal pin holes and look at drive system
          2. run two pack in parallel for higher voltage
I think I will get in the lower 40's with 2 packs and this stock prop
also, cells were completly balanced before and after.

How is the seal on the strut? Sometimes the prop dog works loose on me and I have to re-tighten it. When the dog is loose, if there's a gap, it'll start leaking...

Parallel won't give more voltage, but will help stabilize the voltage under load by doubling the available working amps. I like running dual pack setups.

            HTH. =)

Paralle will hold the voltage higher longer, that was my point.

I think it's a great boat for what I have in it. The $18 radio was flawless.

Yeah, the boats seem to ship real fast compared to the small orders. I've learned if I need something soon, just add a boat to the order. =)

                        hi all noob here
had my seafire turn up on thursday with the intention of running it at the local club. pine rivers brisbane oz in the restricted sports hydro class.
for some one who,s never run a hydro before seems like a cheap way to go.
class rules say i must run either a blackjack or supervee motor and esc which i already owned.
racing was on sunday with 15 to 20 knot winds blowing all day, needless to say only finished 1 race but learnt a lot and saw potential in the seafire for this class.learnt that hydros do need a turn fin even though it will turn without it in a scary low speed way.
turn fin is now fitted and untested thanks Ray(my fin donor)
dont think it will set any records but a cheap project hydro to learn from.
                        cheers Mark

found 1/4 inch brass tube to be a good fit on the stock flex shaft as well as being a snug fit inside the plastic tube as well as a 5x8 bronze bush from my rc car bits fitted under the stock nylon bearing. Dont get any water now and much quieter.also I use sealant on the strut/plastic tube join.
the floor in the seafire is much thicker then the surge crusher but put some f/g mat and epoxy around the motor mount also put extra inside the R/H sponson where the turn fin mounts.

Man, you had that thing percolating yesterday at Boondal.
As I said yesterday, that BJ motor will easily spin an X445 & M645. So next practice day you can borrow mine if you don't have one by then. Hopefully the prop torque won't be too much for the hull.
Then it's all about setting it up for the rougher water.
                              Great little boat.
                              Cheers.
                              Paul.
See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

its no Wiplash but happy with it .turns like a hydro now with the fin.
motor seemed to really peak out on the straights with the 442 and esc and motor just warm.
Big test will be if it works at lakeside in the chop. dont think speed will be the issue.
must remember black side faces down
