Another Tragic Day at the Lake....

Another fatality with an R/C boat, this one in Arizona.

Never Never Ever Swim After a Toy Boat!

Even if you think you are immortal (young), don't try it. Be safe out there!

Wow, sad to hear this stuff. I always bring a life vest if I don't have a retrieval boat available. Better safe than sorry.

I had to swim and dive twice to rescue my boat. I can't afford loosing $500+
Last time it was 12-13 feet under water and I knew the place....
      Found it after 3 attempts.
I also had to ask pro divers - the water was dirty and no chance to see anything....
I spend every vacation snorkeling so even 15feet is no problem (Egypt coral reef is awesome)
By the way - has anyone of you heard ESC beeping under water? You can hear it even if you are 3-4 feet away...

And advice for those who want to rescue the boat....
Don't go into the water rapidly - you may lose consciousness when there's big difference between air and water temperatures.
      Alcohol is also forbidden...

wow unbelievable..i just cannot comprehend how something like this can happen..you have to be able to use common sense and tackle a situation..there is a checklist of thoughts that run through my head to assess situations when my boats flip..like is it worth it? am i doing this the right way...do i need to get help?..is there a safer way...how deep is the water? how far would i have to swim? etc etc etc..i do not know the situation at hand because i was not present...but its tough to have a life lost of something as trivial as rc boating...hard to wrap my mind around that one

          tragic indeed

well accidents happen onshore as well. take myself this weekend for example, i made an idiotic and painful mistake. i had my ul-1 all ready to go, i was walking it to the water when i noticed the strut bushing sticking out a little bit. i put my controller under my arm and used my thumb to push it back in....BIG MISTAKE!!! the radio slipped out of my arm and hit full throttle.... with a grim copper prop all sharpened and balanced. i'll spare you the gory details but yes, i got my thumb, pretty bad too. i will NEVER do that again. What a moron i am

I have never gone more than knee deep after a boat ... after that I use a fishing pole or a rescue boat.

My kid lost her Reef Racer2 boat to seaweed at an inner city pond. There was no way in hell I was going in after it... There are cars in the water...

Someone else pulled it out of the water that night though

I worked underwater body recovery for 5 years before joining the navy. I have heard he was just going to do fill in the blank so many times. I would wear a PFD going after a boat and I was a diver in swift water conditions (Mississippi river) for 5 years and I have tons of training. You never know whats in the water it only takes a second and your gone. if you cant get the boat safely or find your self pausing for just a split second find a safer way pfd canoe rescue boat etc we want you to be at the lake next weekend even if your grumpy about your lost boat.

It is sad news.... makes me laugh though when all the "expert swimmers...etc" on this (and other) forums try and defend themselves when they say they do actually swim for their boats..... Hey, I suppose that if you consider your life to be only worth a few hundrerd bucks (or a few thousand) ...go for it, natures way of thining the herd I suppose.

Rummy makes a good point, if you are going to swim after a dead boat, at least put on a life vest.

                      It's like motorcycles - $50 helmet for a $50 head.

It ought to be a sticky. And I'll say it again - NEVER swim for a boat.

I'm in the same boat with Rum, got the vest ready just in case. Just in case all else fails and I get a good leg cramp or something.

Submarined my UL-1 yesterday on take-off. The canopy came loose and the styrofoam floated up first, followed by the canopy, which immediately begin to sink. For a split second, I considered jumping in - but better judgement prevailed. Now it's in 6 feet of water. With this drought we're having, I should be able to retrive it when the lake level goes down to about 4.5 feet.

                            Thats a regrettable tragedy.

                            My condolences to the family.

You are a better man than me letting her sleep on the bottom in only 6 feet of water. Ida been on that thing like a chicken on a june bug.
