Awesome and thanks! That would be some good info to have! It is for the villain right?

I almost bought that little screamer outrunner that ose sells for a 47inch mono but i decided to go with a dual kb45 10xl's in a gearbox to one outdrive. I figured i don't have to change the prop for different speeds with the gearbox and i have more options if the hull ever breaks. I almost want to put the same set up in a big cat to see what happens!
Fleet: 55" Quad inline T600 Cigarette boat, Twin Mean Machine, Twin T600 47" mystery mono, 4082 Surge Crusher, 1717 8s Genesis, 4074 Villain, "mini mono", 52" Bonzi, Prather Funcruiser, 2 DPI 3.5cc tunnels, 5' Styrofoam recover barge

I'm putting a pair of outrunners in the Villain (2s 450 heli motors), Das Boot and an EKOS. Das Boot is 2200Kv 1500w 4s (32" HOTR twin cat), EKOS is 1700Kv 1700w 4-6s. All are twins. I have a Little Screamer about to go in an Osprey.

Took the boat out for a few runs today came home and discovered the hull was badly cracked around the motor mount.

          Ouch....

So I guess now you need to take everything out and reinforce the hull when it arrives from HK.

That may be salvageable. As long as you don't mind gelcoat cracks, you can fix it.

yeah it seems like I could fix it well see what supplies cost.
I could also paint the middle of the hull black or something.
or just buy the super surge crusher.

That probably needs reinforcement as well. Especially with the bigger motor...

If your going to buy the super surge crusher, i'll take the damaged one and try to fix er up!

Just look for a cheep non-surge crusher hull and put everything in it!

You can use some light ply to reinforce the center section of the hull. That would be easier and cheaper than using composite fabrics. Also a bit stronger and quicker...

Thats a good Idea with the ply. I just has another look it's cracked pretty bad from the motor mount back down both sides of the hull

I was looking at that hull as a replacement not sure if the surge crusher hardware would work on that hull. Idea's anyone?

It *looks* like the hardware will work.

I'll have one of the R2 hulls here this week if you want measurements.

that hull seems to need a rudder that has a build in shaft holder does it not?

Depends on the size of the rudder mount base... There is about 19mm of height available on the tail of the new cat hull.

The other option is to find a longer strut hanger that accepts the rudder and just replace it, making the existing hardware an "all in one".

If you use a counter sink drill bit and a tapered SHCS you could mount the rudder to the end of the strut holder and it would work.

As for using the hardware as is, the rudder mount is slightly larger than the space available on the transom of the HOTR/Apparition/EKOS hull. I'll check the R2 cat hull when I open the box later tonight.

BTW- I started a "Project Surge Crusher" thread in the Boat Builds forum, where I'll be chronicling my build version. =)

                              Hey everyone!

I just received the Surge Crusher on Friday and I haven't run it yet, but that crack in the hull of Graeme's SC doesn't look good...

Graeme, was that stock setup? What kind of batteries were you using? I'm concerned now...

Anyway: thank you guys for sharing your experiences, it's great to read all the tips and tricks!

FighterCat57: I like your blog, are you going to post any pictures of your BL mini wildcat? EDIT: duh, the thread contains pictures already... :)

                              Later,
                              GP

Thanks! I'll get some photos of it up soon. I'm just a little frustrated with it at the time being. So when that feeling subsides, I'm sure the wildcat will make itself known again.
