When my Spektrum receivers get wet - they quit all together - the failsafe is set during binding of the tx/rx. So far I have not had a run away! I like to fix glass work with a mix of epoxy and micro ballons. (lighter and more sandable and tougher) Followed by a thin layer of glaze. If the damage is larger I would use a foam filler, a small patch of fiberglass and a slow curing epoxy. (Slow - to prevent melting the foam/stronger)

yes you can use fail safes in electrics too, I used a Dynamite fail safe unit, from my nitro truck, there is only one catch though...... the fail safe unit needs voltage to operate so if your receiver pack fails your S.O.L.

I had a boat hit the shore, that HAD a fail safe unit in it, turned out the receiver pack had failed. A ton of damage since it hit the concrete erosion wall.

Northern Boater check your RX pack, your run away sounds just like what mine did, and that was my problem, my pack would show voltage on the meter but not under load. even though it had been fully charged before I ran. just pulling full throttle would kill the pack. weird!

my receiver pack HAS gotten wet before (due to the leaky silicone water jackets),and caused me to loose control once or twice ....the throttle and steering both seem to stick in the position i had them. thats in my titan 40 with a hydra 240.

I am going to be using a failsafe that is mandatory in Europe and is just becoming available in the US. It kills the engine not just returning it to an idle. And Casey, is the Titan40 your 60mph boat?
