    Another Encounter with the shore.

My radio died in my boat and the boat ran into the shore. Luckily it did not do as much damage as I thought. Any suggestions on how to fix it would be appreciated.

Hey I had a similar incident and your best bet. being so small would be scuff surrounding area's and use light weight filler. other wise known as bondo. seems like a waste cause you'lll use alot to fix a little. I was priming my sv hanging by a wire and it fell making it a sv 26 3/4". it adhered well and is easy to sand. good luck.

if its a nitro than a failsafe would help keep it from happening again.

You will never see me drive a nitro.:D The ESC should have cut out when the radio died so it must have still been sending a signal to the ESC but I had no control. Anyone hear of similar problems with the spektrum radios?

It is a Hydra 240. I think the receiver got wet from the leaky silicon water jacket.

My friend had a spectrum radio in his boat it kept cutting out and then he put a regular FM radio in it and it worked fine

I have noticed the Spektrum receivers are very sensitive to moisture.

I liberally apply corrosion x to my recievers, speed controllers and servos, i use a spectrum and have yet to have a problem in fact the antenna is usually wadded up in the corner of the hull, and my boats take on water man! this is in brushed applications it may be bad for BL esc's not sure.

as long as water is not getting in I;d say just leave it and say you drove up the back of someone because they were running to slow.
battle damage is cool (pricey but cool) But not when it's with the shore!

First off check to see if the hull is cracked first, (but it looks like it chipped off the gel coat) the best way I have found to check for cracks is to remove all electronics and fill it with water, hold your boat so water will flow toward chipped area.

If the hull is cracked sand area with coarse paper and use a high quality epoxy or finishing resin to repair it. try to get it from the inside as well. then you use a filler to fill in any imperfections.

Bondo can get small air pockets or pinholes, so it may not be water tight by itself.

I may be wrong but I think you can also use a failsafe with electrics just as a little added insurance

yea after looking at that poor jolly cat, I think of mine and don't want the same problem. I will be installing 3 more fail safes in my Toysport hulls they work great in my nitro and gas boats.

For 20.00 bucks each it is worth the extra protection, IMO

I am not sure if a failsafe would have prevented this. The hydra should cut off upon loss of signal. It could be that the signal coming from the receiver was not a clean signal.

yea that is very possible its hard to say. Have you tested the radio system before on a bench? Run the boat then shut off the radio and see what is does I am going to do that in a while to check it, but I still think I will throw a failsafe in it.
