    MISS VEGAS FE w/UL-1 COWL???

So, I was just looking at some old photos of my Vegas. See attached. Wouldn't this be the perfect candidate for some glass re-work and a UL-1 cowl? Why? To improve the tape down of course!!!!

I just picked up another vegas hull and was wondering if anyone ever did this before? Looks like a great idea from the cheap seats..... but I don't have them side by side (my UL-1 blew to pcs and the vegas was sold years ago...). Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Read properchoppers thread. Check out what he did to improve the the hatch for tapedown on the Vegas. He did a great job with his.

Thanks Chummer. I've read through Propper's thread. That is what gave me the Vegas idea in the first place. He did an excellent job, no doubt. I just would rather have a flat tape down. All the way around. I've had really good luck with sealing both the UL-1 and Pickle and I firmly believe this tape down method is the way to go. I've had collisions, blow overs, etc... and the flat tape down always holds up.

Sounds like it might work however you may get some water coming in the gap in front

Is it still gas or have you switched it to electric,,, mine is switched to electric and the opening in the hull is covered by a sheet of plexyglass with the center cut out so you can tape down the flat center peice quickly and slap on the regular hatch quick with no worries..

I don't remember exactly but I tried this when the UL-1 came out and the length was a little short and the front piece didn't fit very well. It could be made to work but I figured it would not look very clean and I'm all about having a nice looking boat so I didn't mess around with it anymore.

Thanks for the pic propper. Ha Ha! Yup, that gap should sink me for sure. At least she would have some friends down there.... like the outboard from my hot shot sprint! Anyhow, it looks like I can cut the width to size and reshape the opening in the hull for a nice recessed lip. Not sure if I should favor the cowl forward or back? Will probably end up depending on where I want to install the motor, huh?

Jerry - My gas one is long gone (ebay sale). I just picked up a hull only. Do you have any pictures of your cowl setup? I seem to remember reading something about yours or someone that did something similar. Would be great to see it.

Wow...I did'nt think that the motor would sit that low in one of these. Is that the UL-1 motor?? What kind of speeds, heat and runtimes do you get with that?

Sorry Shooter, don't mean to hijack this thread.

Oh Yeah, Paint job looks cool too!

Nice work Jerry. I would have never thought to do it that way. 3pcs, but realistically only 2. I assume the larger pc is glued to the hull? And then the smaller pc is taped, right? Low effort to fab too! What type of glue did you use? Something flexible?

No prob Chummer! I'm interested as well. That definitely looks like the UL-1 motor in there. Must be all about the angle to tuck it in. Less angle would be better anyway I suppose. Nice work again Jerry! I would assume speeds around the low 40's with 4s2p and the UL-1 electronics??? But you tell us!!!

It would be cool to build from scratch a hydro designed AROUND the UL-1 hatch and nose cone. It would require lots of thought, but could be done. Maybe a hull carved from foam or balsa wood then fiberglassed over.
