Hopefully this is a simple question. I just bought a Speedmaster Stinger for a .187 cable. There is an 1/8 indentation that is a 1/4" diameter on the transom side. A 1/4" brass tube fits perfectly in that hole. It looks like I leave about 1/8" of the brass tubing sticking out when I mount it on the boat and then the stinger mounts to the transom. My question is, is it ok to run .187 cable through a 1/4" tube with no teflon? My other choice is to use 9/32 tube with a piece of teflon tube sticking out (1/4" diameter) and push that into the stinger. What do you think is the best way.

I run the .187 cable and no liner in the 1/4 tube works great! the suggested brass tube size that OSE reccomends for the .187 cable seems off, it runs way to hot in the 7/32 brass tube even with grease or oil, i tried, and the brass tube had holes in after one run from the cable.Comment

your not going to fit a liner in the 1/4 tube and run a .187 cable, only the liner for a .150 and a .150 cable fit in the 1/4 inch tube.

Jeepers thanks for the info. I scanned the document that comes with the strut. It states that the copper tube should be 1/4" for a .187 drive shaft to work with the stinger. Yet it conflicts with the set up recomendations with OSE. I am going to go with the 1/4 inch as you have unless someone enlightens me further. The only other option is 9/32 with a teflon liner as recommended by OSE. That liner is so tight I am not sure I can get it fed into the tube unless I oil it down quite a bit. It does appear to be about 1/4" in diameter which would also fit into the stinger.
I have the 7/32nd tube also and it seemed pretty snug to me. Thanks for letting me know about that.Attached FilesComment

If I were building a mono and used the .187 cable, personally I would use the 9/32 tube and liner, mostly because I think it helps keep water out of the hull better. Also the tube is enclosed in the hull, (unlike a hydro) and not causing any drag in the water.Comment
