1/3 Bud The Ultimate RC Project

I found this on CL and thought I would share.

    Someone should buy this.

Exact 1/3 scale replica of the REAL Miss Budweiser Hydroplane hull which was driven to wins by Tom D'Eath while under Bernie Little.
This replica is believed to have been commissioned by Bernie Little and was used for display at the hospitality events at the races and other functions.
Built by the same people who built the real boat! This replica is of very heavy construction of wood and fiberglass, it took four men to carry it. All of the running gear parts are of heavy welded stainless steel. The hanger straps are sufficient to display the boat while suspended!
All of the graphics are painted on the base layers under the clear coat. There are no stickers or decals.
This all makes for a very cool and one of a kind or one of only a few conversation and display piece.
As far a questions regarding the possibility of making a working self powered R/C toy.........
You would probably know better than me if you are asking. There appears to be control cables for the rudder and front elevators with room for other components under the removable cockpit. The engine cowling is removable, there is quite a bit of room, the propeller shaft exits the hull and goes to the prop through what appears to be a workable cutlass bearing. I do not think that there is a water tight stuffing box. The engine bay would need to be water proofed, it is uncoated wood.
    Length 11'
    Width 6'
    Height 32"
    Weight 350 lbs. approx.

It does look nice and I like the idea of building such a large model but, I think I would leave it alone, that thing belongs in a museum... but that's just my opinion...
At 350 lbs it's gonna need some serious motor! WOW!!!!!
I would also have worries if the construction was upto carrying the 350lbs about????

Having said all that, I would be interested to see it fly.... Good luck.

all you would need is a jet ski motor to power 350lbs
I bet with the right motor, 100mph is possible

You could probably use a dirtbike motor as well (basically the same thing as a jet ski motor, just easier to find).

Remember, that 350lbs is just the bare hull, you'll double that with all the other gear.

A dirtbike motor would be lacking in the HP department. Most skis have at least 2 cyl motors in them + you could use the jet pump to power it.

How exactly would you use a jet pump to power a hydro?

I think the prop drive would be a better option. Im sure you are aware that the majority of dirtbike motors are 2 stroke as well? A 4 stroke 450 wouldn't be a bad option though.

The one I posted uses a jetski motor and jet pump. It's the only working one of the 2. The prop would always be a better option on a hydro.

I didn't say anything about a 2 stroke motor. I said at least 2 cylinders. It would take a LOT of HP to move that thing. A dirtbike motor is not going to be enough. I don't thing a dirtbike motor would even get it on plain. PWC motors are everywhere. A-holes wreck them all the time. I just looked on the local craigslist and I think it was about even for the adds for just motors compared to whole PWC's.

Yeah, I know how many wrecked PWC's are out there...

But think of how those people treated the motors. Ever think a single one was winterized or had fuel stabilizer put in?

just a simple carb clean and things are good to go
