A 0.078" wire will break on a strong 4S setup running a large prop - 50mm or larger particularly if there is a 'sharp' bend in the drive line. Maybe not right away, but eventually the wire will break and you'll lose the prop. This assumes standard hobby-grade wire - not all wire is created equal and better wire will last longer.

I ran an 0.09" wire in a very strong 4S setup with a 47mm prop and it lasted "forever". It was pretty straight though.

Hmm good to know. I was contemplating a twin with .078 wire on 6s each. The props would probably been no bigger than 450's ever. Its still not sounding like that great of an idea though.I dont want to be on the edge you know.

I have guys out there running 6S on 78 and NEU power. I have seen as many cables twisted in to knots and letting go... and they switch to wire. There are some that have been running the same wire for years...me included. I do like the teflon liner for them but have run them both ways.

Good carbon wire is very strong.

Nice thing about twins and wire you can forget all the R/L cable BS.

Can you harden the wire like we do prop shafts in nitro?

I siezed a prop nut on one of Jeffs .078 wire drives, when I put a wrench to the motor collet and prop nut, I twisted it a full 360 and snapped the collet off...when I rolled the wire drive on glass, it was perfect! I couldn't believe how much torque strength the wire had, and it didn't deform or twist...no more snapping shafts when you get air and return the prop to water....

Impressive. I know wire drives are pretty tough.Thats some testament though wow.

Speaking of the devil. I just lost a x640 and prop shaft . The wire didnt break the wire/propshaft bond let go. I hate this loctite method. I need some propshaft bored hollow from end to end . I can let the drive dog set screw bite the wire and be done with it. I can also use a lock collar on the back and let its set screw bite the wire.My atlas runs this way with no problem. This was the first time i tried to do the loctite method and this will be the last. First time Ive lost a prop and it had to be my copper octura 642 my favorite prop.15 plus dollars ouch and a prop shaft

Was it one of mine? All depends on how they are made...hole size drilled, etc. Too tight and you bascially scrape the loctite off as you slide the wire in leaving no bonding agent to hold it togther.

Not that they can't break there but you are right...if you can set the drivedog set screw on it then no issues. That is how I make some for SAW runners. I tried the hollow tube...not very true for the SS but will work.

Now I have silver brazing wire but not sure the carbon wire will not get soft after 1100 heat. I do plan to try it on my own.
