What's a cool use of a 3rd channel in an electric build?

well i have always wanted to put a airplane smoke pump on my 3rd chanel. i think it would be funny to get out front and in the inside lane then let the smoke rip so the others couldnt see their boats and choke up on the throtle.... just a little suprise since we only race for fun....

HK has these (10A) receiver activated switches http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=8833 so you can control most electric loads from a spare channel. Like a bilge pump, lights, elec trim, etc). Or you could use a small relay and do the spare battery thing. Toocool.

These guys make a great high current switch. I use them in all of my "upside down retrieval" systems. Very light weight.

Here's the upside down retrieval thread and video:

                    http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ad.php?t=16414

                    another vid-close up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EZNR8FmSQU

I also used to have a trim set-up on an outboard. Worked very well....just make sure you incorporate a worm-gear to counteract the thrust.

                    Great topic!

use the 3rd channel to cut the fishing line if the fish it too big and its pulling the boat underwater.

I was toying with the idea of adding a flood chamber via high speed pump to one of my old trasher monos. The idea is when your upside down, hit the pump to fill a fuel tank(s) inside your hull against one side, when the boat tips to the one side and the prop hits the water, get on some throttle and reverse the pump. Hopefully the momentum and emptying ballast tank will right the hull and send you on your way.

Still in the brainstorming phase right now, but it sounds feasible. I have studied the triton and other flood chamber monos for inspiration, but I totally have to guess on the ballast tank size. I am thinking like 1/5 - 1/4 the total interior space needs to be for ballast, and all one side of the boat. I am thinking a nice narrow mono will work best for the project.

All my 3 channels are full in my HPR115 Cat, ch1 for steering, ch2 for left motor ESC, ch3 for right motor ESC. CH3 copies throttle mix from CH2. I believe this is way more reliable than a Y harness connection.

I also tried tilt/differential steering working together with the rudder, by applying the mix functions of my 3PKS. Not sure there's any advantage over traditional rudder-only steering so I just disabled the mix.

My new idea: CH3 as a BRAKE actuator in dual rudder setups. Will try this in my new project(under construction), an electric powered SW55.

When the trigger is pushed, radio mix will proportionally turn both rudders outward generating a massive braking force. This might result in a sharper cornering, brake before the corner, full throttle in and after the corner, just like car cornering skills.

At the 2006 SAWs at Legg Lake, Tim Highton from Alaska had a 100+ mph rigger with dual rudders that splayed via a 3rd channel signal to slow the boat down in the runoff area.

OTOH I wouldn't want to be the boat behind you when you brake hard going into a corner
