The 40.160wk manual states clearly that if you use additional capacitors they should be the same make, same capacitance and same voltage. The factory cap's are 63v 330mf. The Etti's are 63v but 1000mf. Huge in rush.I found the problem! After several back and forth emails with Shulze, all the indications said it was something in the voltage supply causing the problems. All the connections and batteries were good, but Shulze suggested I check the leads to the caps and there was the smoking gun or should I said the vaporized leads.
What I believe happened is the first time I powered up the Schulze at the lake I did not use a soft start resistor to charge the additional ETTI caps. Of course there was big flash, but what I probably did not notice was the leads to the on-board caps vaporizing.
So let my mistake be a future warning: Use a Soft Start resistor to charge any HV controller with or without external caps.

Thanks guys,
Although I could probably replace the caps myself, and re conformal coat I would rather have Schulze perform this and test it to make sure I didn't cook anything else.

You're a wise man.........
I have 3 of the 40.160's, all in working order, waiting for my boats,
but I also will send them to Schulze for an inspection.Comment
