I have gone to the dark side!!

So I bit the bullet and went lipo. I bought A Hyperian 1210 and 2 balancers. It took me a while to understand the charging system. But it seems top notch. There are many checks and balances to the system.

I have to say lipo performance is crazy. My 2 x 2s 5000 packs weigh a tad more than a 7.2 NiMH pack!!!!! The drifter with a 700bb flies. The draw back is that the esc doesnt have a low voltage cutoff, so I have to play it safe and bring it in well before the pack is done. I have to find something to fix that.

On a different note is charge safety. This really bothered and still bothers me. So I bought a check stainless grill today. It was $20, has a hinged top and latch to lock shut. Also vents on the side. It seems(???) perfect to use while testing.

A number of companys make LiPo "savers" that are actually low voltage cutoffs. They connect in line with the ESC/receiver and plug into the pack taps. When the pack voltage gets too low the device shuts down the ESC. THey are fairly cheap and alow you to use your current ESC without LVC.

                Steve,
Been flying Lipo's for 6+ years now and many of my set up's do not have voltage detections. Just run for a known period of time, recharge and see how many Mah you have put back in. This way you have an idea of how many Mah you pull per minute and then adjust your run time from there.

                Cheers,
                Jim

                  Re :

Steven, Congrats ! I'm with you with the nervous-apprehension jitters ; I've been living with them for a long time. Until yesterday. After a long conversation with Randy, I decided to order my first paks ! Randy knows his stuff, and does a lot of testing. He advised me to get some Neu paks, which he really likes, so there goes the bank account ! I have the Hyperion 1210 and plan on two LBA 10 balancers ; are those what you're using ?
                  Keep the feedback coming. :)

Steven, how much did your initial lipo set up set you back when all is said and done? I'm thinking of switching to lipo for my 12 cell, 700 powered boat and want to know what I'll be up against expense wise.

Steve, that is why I purchased an FMA charger. They are idiot proof and they have been supplying the LI-PO industry with a charger for many years.
