    Scorpion 3026 1900 KV re-test

I previously ran the Scorp in the VS-1 with a Hydra 120, timing set [v 1.04] to 4.75.
It was no faster than the UL-1 motor. Propped up to a M545 [ it's supposed to have major torque] and the motor cogged. Pulled it out and put it in the UL-1 with a Barracuda 80 and was sluggish and came in at 242 deg !!!. Bummer. Jan's 3026 in his Dark Horse with a huge prop just flew - He was using the UL-1 SC. Put the Scorp back on the VS-1 with a UL-1 SC & Etti caps, and she just ripped. Temp after 2 min + was 115 deg.
Apparently, { I picked this up somewhere on the boards} the Scorp likes lots of advance; up to 15 degrees. I have no idea how much advance the UL-1 SC has, but it sure lit up the VS-1. Now, for some propping up !!

I read that they like a lot of advance too, funny part is if I am not mistaken the Scorp outrunners are Delta winds. You would think that lots of advance would be bad but I guess not.

My scorpion really plows, in a light rigger...unless it is at least 11 degrees...more is better. BUT anything near 24 or so..it starts to really heat up with huge loss of power.

The timing has to do with the fact the motors are D winds... but not alone... it has to do with the amount of poles it has as well... too little timing and it does not interprets the positions correctly... too much and heat builds up... also keep in mind that a lot of timing is relative... what is good for one motor is not necessarily good to another.

          Tony, video on the way

Watch your temps at first. When I tested the Scorp in the UL-1 Hydro [ with a CC BAC 80 set on normal timing, the motor came back at 242 degrees [!]. On the VS-1 out in the airflow and the UL-1 SC, 160 degrees. I'm of the opinion that the Scorp in the MM will perform about the same as with a UL-1 motor, both on 4S that is.
Keep the bearings lubed; Southriverrc sells the Scorpion bearing lube kit & Scorpion advises to lube after every 2 runs. I lube each time. Let us know how your MM runs.
I have the Scorp back on my VS-1 now; last run with the UL-1 SC, she ran nicely with a Grim 42/55 detounged & mildly cupped. May try a bigger prop tomorrow.

thanks tony, iam looking at making a water cooled motor mount to see if that helps, just have to work out how to change the timing on my mystery 200a to 15 deg

Can't help you with that- 'tho I will say that both Jan's Dark Horse & my VS-1 ran great with the Scorp using a UL-1 speedy, which barely got warm.

The Motor will take more than the UL1 Speedo can Handle. I ran the Motor in an Old H&M Drifter S. x450 Prop. 51mph. Motor gets to 200 degrees. (Specs say it's good for 300) Pulled over 100 amps and blew the Controller. The Motor is good but is not exactly the most efficient motor. Well built though. I plan on Using it in a P Offshore set-up. I want to have a less expensive set-up and this motor proves you can go fast on $80.

                          Have fun Guys.

Hi Howard !! I too am looking to come up with a less power hungry P-Offshore setup instead of just propping down the P-Mono. Hmmm...See 'Ya in Feb. !!

A similar motor, only 1/2 the watts is only $26 at hobby city.

They can barely keep them in stock:

Thought I would order one and check it out. The customer claims it is actually around 1800-1900KV.
