    hi Christian

    Im also experiencing bad luck with am radio, I have both fm and tactic 2.4ghz. For me you better go for tactic 2.4, its cheaper and require only 4 AA batteries and its very light, and the range is very far too, even have a built in fail-safe, so your boat won't run if no signal or out of range.

        Bonjour Christian

        I would also suggest the Tactic, if you are on a budget.

              The Tactic's receiver units are much cheaper than the Futaba, if you plan on running more boats. Both are a good choice...features may make your descion

                    I bought a 2.4GHz 2 channel SS 224 Tx Rx system at TowerHobbies. I think its a rebatch Tactic 2.4 for $79. 99, works greats, no interference....

                      I recently got rid of a BUNCH of perfectly good FM radios and stocked up on Tactic. I'm running the tactic in all of my boats now (I have 16 receivers and 3 transmitters). I love the radio. No antenna on the receiver and they have performed well and receivers are only $25! You can order a 'bulk' deal of the Tower hobbies 2.4 receiver (exact same one as the Aquacraft and a little cheaper). By ordering 8 receivers, the cost comes down to around $18 each including shipping. Futaba receivers are close to $100, they have an external antenna, etc.

                      I do have to admit I have one transmitter that's funky. I would run the boat out to the other side of the lake waiting for the countdown to start the race and all of a sudden the boat will take off and hit the other side of the lake although I haven't touched the transmitter. I'm going to have to figure out which of the three transmitters is bad. To prevent much damage, I'll use one of my sailboats as the test bed!

                          One of the best improvement for us so far ...the tactic work very well ...

                          (since the last time we use the Futaba who come with SV27 , we have practicly lost one of our boat because we use a fishing rod to retreive boat ....and the tow boat glitch real bad , and take a lot of time to retreive the wounded one...)
                          thanks for the input guy

                            like sailr,

                            i dumped 12 futaba 2 channel cheapies, and replaced all of them with 2 tactic pistol transmitters, and 12 tactic receivers. I am running boats ranging from a 15" scale model of a Coast Guard Utility boat, to a a highly modified MRP tunnel hull, all on those tactics.

                            2009-10-09, run number two, MRP tunnel hull with Aquacraft EP1 outboard, CC Hydra 120 ESC, Feigao 540s 8s, 3 cell lipo, x432 prop. 43.4 mph, 123 amps max, 30? amps…

                            no problems at all.

                              I have both and use both... I have to say that the Tactic so far as not failed me, but I have seen some problems with it. The Radio is very sensitive to low voltage and has NO voltmeter to tell you when the voltage is getting low. The Futaba has a bit more range and does have some more bells and whistles... but it shows on the price tag.
                              My FM has NEVER failed me, but you have to deal with same frequencies interference (in case there are more people running FM). It also has a good range.
                              :::::::::::::::. It's NEVER fast enough! .:::::::::::::::
