After seeing how well Jan's shovel ran after he replaced the UL-1 motor with the Scorp, I just had to get one. The motor's so beautiful I wanted to wear it around my neck on a chain as a piece of jewelry ! Having it spin around on the back of the VS-1 has mucho cool factor so I just popped it on. Run report later this week !

Yery cool Tony. I love that setup. Should be a rocket!
So does this mean you guys are allowing the outrunners in your Spec classes?
I heard they allowed them at the NAMBA FE Nats. It that true? Anyone?
It would be nice to have more motor options for the Spec classes as long as the we keep the Kv's similar and the cost down.

I don't think the rules for Spec system made the ballots last time around, maybe next year.
I believe it's up to the officials of the events to allow such "Spec" Classes to each event...
the next spec classes are on a club level only and not really matched from one club to the next... that's what I heard at least...
Until further notice the Spec Class still 700 motor with Nixx cells, I hope it changes soon.:::::::::::::::. It's NEVER fast enough! .:::::::::::::::Comment

I know that there's not any written rules for the spec classes in either association.
For me it really doesn't matter. Associations have a way of screwing up a good thing anyway. At least in IMPBA. I don't like the idea of being stuck running one or two manufactures products. More choices the better. I would like to see a retail
price cap put on the motors, like say, a $100.00 and no more than 2100 Kv just for starters. Official rules or not, whatever we do we need to keep the spec classes affordable. That's what makes them sooo relevent right now.

I totally agree with Chris. Some of the actions of IMPBA totally escaped logic, like omitting 3S lipos completely, keeping out a lot of RTR boats from competition and thus keeping a lot of new blood from entering the sport.
On the other hand, for the SPEC classes, AQ or Proboat motors and 4S lipo needs to remain. There are far too many of them being campaigned to 'muddy' up the class with more choices. Maybe it could be taken further by having SPEC and SPEC modified?
We do need to keep the number of classes down or it will be impossible to run a one day meet anymore!Mini Cat Racing USA

Chris.. im truly am no expert but..
Seems access might be a deciding factor as well.. Im not sure the intent of spec classes was ever written but from what i have heard it has allot to do with ... well.. walk in, buy and race... that to the unknowing possible new racer.
Im not sure but from what i understand (and i might be wrong) its not just cost..
Spec Class... maybe should be written and not assumed.. maybe its this...
"Like" components.
Each component accessible thought at least 3 hobby distributors?
Yada yada blaha..
Just a thought.
Remember ALL other classes running in FE racing DO NOT HAVE this type of rule.. its a sort of free for all if you will and one reason it seems FE racing kind of seems to burn its self out every few years. As we know FE boats have WAY MORE potential for growth then nitro boating but I keep thinking. Why then, is it not growing that fast?.. I keep thinking about the growth spurts and then the fire burns down again.
I good set of spec rules that can adapt to simple change is likely the key to the “meat and potatoes racing”
On a side note..
In nitro racing we have displacement.. its an air pump.. The technology is only going to progress so fast.....personally.. I like that challenge.
ROCK ON RC BOAT RACERS!
