Is there a correct rotation for a prop?

Hi:
on a mean machine with a Fiego 9XL and an Octura X642 prop, Looking from the back of a boat which way should the prop rotate, clockwise or counter clockwise? Knowing that by changing two wires you can change rotation of the motor, I get confused?

Prop shafts can be confusing

Hi:
I noticed that on the mean machine the prop shaft rotates counter clock wise and the prop nut holding the prop to the dog leg tightens clock wise which seems correct to me. This would help keep the prop nut tight.

My friend has a Hobby Lobby off shore catarmaran with a brushless motor and an X442 prop and his prop nut tightens count clock wise and the prop spins clock wise which helps keep the prop nut tight.

The prop don't care which rotation it spins?

well, the flex shaft has to be the appropriate thread for each different rotation, otherwise, on top of may losing your prop you will fill the hull with water too.

the thread are the same but there are right and left hand flex cable

It don't matter which way the prop is turning, both ways are effecient? Both these boats I looked at have similar looking Octura props, just a different size, yet one turns clock wise and the other boat it turns counter clock wise and thias is OK?

What others seem to have missed here is that there are left-hand and right-handed props. If you look closely, your prop is "left-handed" and your friend's is "right-handed"; there is more difference than just the size. If you turn one the "wrong" way the boat will go backwards. So yes, it does matter which way the same prop turns - a lot. To go forwards it has to turn the correct direction.

R/C race boats almost always run clockwise courses because the prop helps the boat to turn....most all R/C props turn counterclockwise.
