new Question; (brought to you by the letters 'IDK' )
how much space does one leave at the drive dog? with a cable one leaves 1 cable dia...does that work for piano wire as well?
thanks
rex
I still leave a 1-2 mm. I am running one of my 062 versions on the China cat with 8Xl and 442 and she is doing well. I do like the bearing strust for wire. It spins with almost no resistance.
SS stubs. I then do a mechanical lock with the drive dog on the SAW version...so I call it. This now makes it very strong...you will break the wire first and I hav never broken a wire yet. But I do not use 062 for more than 4S. Anything over that I use 078 wire.
Drivedog set screw locks to the wire where there is a flat spot...thanks to Andy K for this method on the brass versions years ago. Not fun to make but they hold up well....I have never had one come part yet.
I like brass but it is soft and was used mainly for smaller set ups with 1/8" props.
lessee thats about 22", yes? thats what I'm running(or at least try to ) 540s 5070kv on 2s in a 22" hydro. and if anyone is curious about how many times I have to r & r the motor...minimum of 1 more time. pull the motor connect the esc, re-instal lube the shaft etc, power it up, goose the throttle...frack me! its running backward, sigh, have to it all over again.
Yes, I know someone that runs .055 wire with a 6 cell set up and has not had any issues. I just would not want to make a coupler for that small of wire but can be done.
