im really looking into just starting with a rtr

There are not many options for a true RTR boat for what you desire...includes the radio. I would caution against your approach. Most radios on RTR boats are junk, the UL1 is an exception. I would search the for sale forums for a used Delta Force hull or Mean Machine and buy a Tactic 2.4ghz radio. My 2 cents and some of those E bay boats menioned are very good value with a Tactic radio you will have a boat that outperforms the RTR boats you have mentioned.
