Plasti-Dip reciever how to .....

Hi guys ,

I've got 5 Rx's here I need to waterproof, so i thought I'd do a quick how to for those interested, since we've had a few more inquiries about it.

I am waterproofing some spekky rx's , but its pretty much the same for them all..... First off I found these dishes that I get from winco with the general so's chicken / orange chicken ars great hobby containers .

I started by pulling the Lil' rx housing screws out and pulling out the circuit boards.
Then I wrap the servo plugs, and bind buttons in this case with masking tape.
Then I lay out some news print (I keep pleanty on hand for my chinchilla cage)
Then I lay out my Rx's & give them 3-4 liberal coats on top and bottom. I n T his case I also made sure T o spray in between the stacked circuit boards.....

There we go, 3 coats top & b bottom, everything looks good. The contacts & bind button ad are clean, they're ready to reassemble. : :

I'm doing the same thing right now to an esc with spray electrical tape.

E-tape isn't bad, I am just partial to plasti-dip

I spray them with cabinet touch up lacquer as suppo and fighrercat did and it work pretty good as well as on escs light coats and a lot of them, you have to realize escs on boats are out of warranty the minute the hit an envelope. MGM has been good to me but my wallet is good then when I ship a 200+$ esc to them. Never been more than 50 euro but still not cheap. Castles have been replaced but who keeps buying a product that is replaced rather than one that rarely fails

The spray electrical tape didn't work well. I sprayed it on heavy at first. Yuck. They I decided to read. Instructions. After it dried, i peeled it off. Tried several light coats. Still no good. I reverted back to epoxy. This esc will be done much better than the one that burned up.

Here's how I do it!

I apply 2 coats of urethane coating. I purchase the product from amazon.com for about $10: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008OA...ref=mp_s_a_1_1
It is reactive to ultraviolet light so you can use a black light to see if you missed any spots.
It will not peel off with alcohol, but can be removed with abrasion if repair it's required.
Another way to skin this cat!

Good idea Capn' I've user it on other things, but haven't tried electronics yet. Indian head shellac works pretty good too

Well I ended up building barriers around the circuits and things that needed to be water proof on the esc, then I flooded with clear epoxy to encapsulate it all. If i ever have to repair it, I might as well toss it in the trash lol.
After epoxy dried, i rounded all of it nicely then coated it all with spray electrical tape. Going overboard I know. Lol

You bet!
This is very similar to the conformal coating I use on circuit cards for the Navy. Holds up very well to heat and the environment.

SR-series receivers aren't for use on boats. Use the MR types instead - the protocol is better suited. Plus they come pre-waterproofed.

yea....sorry...ive had two of them fail on me from getting wet without adding some sort of coating. Yes, mr200's. As a matter of fact i just hung up with horizon about getting a replacement. They want me to send it back in to them. Kinda got spoiled because the first one that failed, the guy i talked to was really nice and sent one out right away and i just tossed the bad one in the garbage. The guy i talked to was not near as nice. maybe he was having a bad day.
