Pursuit mono motor and prop advice

Been a while since I've run, but now I'm running a single 5s on the standard 36mm 2075 kv motor on an M445. The T160 esc let the smoke out on the 5th run. I then read how many T160's have let go and assume mine went because it was a T160? But could it have been the set up? (finger pointed at the 5s). Sooo I want to run single 5s and will probably buy a swordfish 220. What leopard motor and prop could I use? I know runtimes will be short.

    Thanks Dave

What length is the motor.........60, 74mm?

Sounds like too much prop for sure if its a 3660 and may be on the edge if its a 3674. Folks upping to the next cell without adjusting prop size experience ESC failure. You could have gotten away with it with an x440.

60mm motor, too much prop and that esc was not worthy. If you just replace the esc eventually that motor will let the smoke out too with that setup. Find a Castle 1515 or similar. Steve sells TP and a new batch of TFL motors like the 4 074, 2200 kv or larger 4082 2000kv with a rear support and a T180 esc or a SF200 esc.

3674. So I drop to the 440 to be safe. Cool. Thanks but what kv motor and do I go 3674 again or go 4074?

Thanks for reply. I want to replace the motor and prop too, but unsure on kv and size for single 5s. Cant afford castle and leopards are reasonably priced here in uk.

You wanting to run 5s for a reason? Like maybe you have a bunch of 5s batts? 4s is perfect for that boat with a 2000-2300kv motor..............you can prop accordingly from there.

I have a 4074 2200kv in my Pursuit and run it on 4s2p with an x445 and it hits 50mph............nice speed for me. I ran it on 5s once for kicks and got 60.

I dont think you need to change motors though, seriously, just get a T180 ESC and run it on 4s.......or if you are stuck on 5s run an x440.

Ive got both 4 and 5s and can see the reasoning for 4s2p. I used to run single 4s on an m445, so might as well go 4s2p and keep the 445. Thanks

i run it with a 3674 1900Kv on 5s , hull is able to handle more
                would go for a 4074

why 5s and not 4s ? : keeping the amps lower

Is that motor the same 3674 that's in the Genesis? The 2 poler?

Its not bad for sport running on the 4s x445 mentioned, but if you want to do a permanent type upgrade, the "definitive" setup for the Pursuit is the Leopard 4074 2200kv to run on 4s2p, with an x 642 or m545 etc...........its likely the most common, solid setup, with a 180a ESC or better.

I'm thinking its a 2 pole motor too if its 36 x74 and it isn't bad but, limited life if pushing hard.

Exactly, so keeping it in the mid 40's will be a sound setup imo.

Most of the old TFL/ Hobbyking boats ( pursuit, Genesis etc) used the FSD 2 pole motors. These motors were not the most efficient motors around & would get hot pretty quick if pushed. The newer TFL boats now come with the 4 pole SSS motors which are not bad motors at all.

You can turn some serious prop with that motor, you'll need it too to take advantage of the power to gain more speed, what are you runnin' propwise?
Seems like an x450, x548 or x645 would do well on it.
