    Not impressed with TP power!!

This spring I bought a TP 4060 from tp usa. I put less than ten short runs on it and the rotor started slipping on the shaft. The shaft actually slid nearly 1/4 inch through the rotor. I contacted them and they said the collet was too tight(whatever that means) but they would fix it since it was still under warranty. Junlin asked me what kv it was so she could order a new rotor from their factory in china. It would take 3 weeks to get one. I shipped the motor back almost 4 weeks ago so I decided to follow up. I get a reply saying they did not have the "special glue" to fix the rotor so they sent the whole motor to the factory in china and it will be a further 3 weeks. WTF!! special glue?? That doesnt sound like a new rotor to me!! It will be the last POS i Buy from them.

Ya really. I was happy with a new rotor but if all they are going to do is try to re glue it its not worth the cost of shipping to get it back.

Guess they ain't heard of Elmer's! lol
I had a Traxxas motor slip up onetime but other than that I ran my TP about 10 times in my RiverCat. Kind of miss it now...
Why are you bothering me? I want to see your boat!

Actually, I'm starting to wonder if my 4070 has this problem since it now has much more end play than when I first bought it (not as much as you) and it only has 56 laps on it at best. It might account for the heat too that I have had. I'll open it up and see if there is evidence of slippage.

Proper retaining compound would fix it if I had a decent press. Interesting but, I'm not sure I have the same issue as you.

I haven't had a chance to run the motor now with a thrust bearing on it.

Ok now im really confused. I just got an email from junlin. Apparently the glue is for glueing the end of the motor can on, and by the way the rotor is not broken!!.WTF. The shaft moved back nearly 1/4".my collet was rubbing on th MM or it would have moved more. I sent them pics and they said "yes this can happen when the collet is too tight" Now its not broken.

I like to learn more about this.
I have had good luck with their 36xx motors, but the 40xx I had to send it back, luckily i have not powered it up, got a full refund.
Just for my curiosity, what is MM?

Glue the end of the can ? do what ! so you cant take it apart and replace the bearing. Chinese translation collet is too tight, trying to say that you had the collet too close to the can and created the problem yourself..aka they wont take the responsibility for half a$$ workmanship ! Reading this and hearing about the other probs, definately has changed my mind about purchasing a TP motor. With Neu you do pay more but you get quality and good customer support and you can get custom work done on your motors at a reasonable price...goodluck on this bud, I do hope it works out for you and please do keep us posted... Too bad you didn't get it from OSE, he's always been a big help to a lot of us with the stuff he sells, even though he likely isn't even obligated to back it up.

My TPs are performing great all 8 so far, I did have a problem with end bells on the 4070s the Grub screws they use are ran in too far and the end bell will push out of the case. I redrilled and tapped all mine for 2.5mm and put in regular stainless panhead allens, problem solved. Much easier than sending them back warrentee or not.

Sorry to hear about your trouble with TP.... I have 5 TP motors 4040's and 4050's and they have worked flawlessly. I started out on leopard and found that on my set ups TP out performed them every time. Maybe it's just me but they are awesome motors for the price. I probably would have demanded a replacement in the beginning, depending on payment, that might be away to drive some results if they will not back what they are saying they are supposed to from a warranty perspective.

Good Luck man, I hope things work out and don't give up on TP yet, there are always lemon's in the batch!

I'm not giving up on TP, as far as I'm concerned the problem I had was a minor problem with a easy fix. Performance wise I think they perform great for the money, they're not Neus but you're not paying the Neu price for them. Overall I'm very happy with TP motors and will continue to use them.

I will see how the motor is in the spring when we are running again. I am not impressed with all the extra BS involved in the repair. If they told me they could get a rotor in 3 weeks time im sure they could of had the glue in less time then that. whatever the glue is?? who knows but i would have had it back in time for testing if they didnt send it to china. Now I have to wait till spring. by then the warranty will be up and I may be stuck with a dog.
