He's not quitting guys. He's just frustrated.

Like me, he now has a scale that might not do what he wants it too. Power to weight on a modern style turbine is tough to get just right IMO. It's especially hard to compete against say a Miss US. Those early pickles have no extra scaley parts to add weight. No turbine, no tail feathers, no giant cowl. It probably could work but only if you know while building it that you have to stay light light light. I've seen the Thomas turbine run fast on FE but it still had to be light. No extra junk in the trunk.

My boat weighs about 18 pounds. That's only 10s1p too. It's fine at speed in the straight but take about 12.5 minutes to round a turn.

PAGS scale is pretty quick but it's ugggggOOO. Sorry Mike. Todd's boat is gorgeous but got lapped. Mine is less gorgeous but got lapped too.

We talked about maybe having some cool boats and some race boats. Not sure what we'll do. We don't race a lot of scale in these parts so it may not matter. I could own a 3 limited boats for what it costs to do one of these right.

Maybe I'll do a 10th scale this winter.

1/10 scale is fun, would like to see more of those. But I can't just give up on scale. It is a great class to race. Just trying to figure out what I need to do to move forward. Still kind of cheezed about concours.

Todd, see what TS Davis just posted? Exactly the things we discussed...all those extra items mean extra weight...Then the repair added even more to the cowling, and changing from a light handmade turbine exhaust to the rcboatcompany version added a LOT of tail weight. It seems to have spiraled out of control. Just as we talked about last night...an 8255 is a race boat, or a 108, 109 kit. Light weight, simple, less stuff to damage. Now, the Extreme 171 Elam that Don is running is fast, and only 14lbs or so...67mph on radar. Its a full on 3 piece version with lighter framing. The T6 kit we used with yours was a hybrid Extreme. Its got the features of the Extreme kit, but without the 3 piece design, or lighter framing. Probably should have repaired your T6 hull using the same build technique as the original build...but, we toughened it up, and pushed the edge of the weight envelope. I don't feel its a paper weight, but you have to decide which direction you want to go with this...Keep the Peters and May for fun and build a purpose built race boat, or sell the Peters and May, and still build a purpose built race boat. I will do what I can to help. I will even design you an extremely light 8255 extreme series, 3 piece, scaled down to the minimum length, to minimize all extra weight...Just like we did with Don's Extreme 171...that technique worked. If this is a class you truely love, you need to put the emotions of the paint scheme and be competitive. You faced top notch drivers, with deep pockets who don't care if they burn up gear to win a heat. Anyone can win any day, with driving and the right hull. I can help with the latter.

          Mike

PS, I talked to Doug S. last night, and told him I also think your 1530 may have already had some wire damage, and if it was slightly damaged internally, the motor may have been failing and slowing down as well. I still think if a 1527 can run 100mph in a SAW application, an undamaged 1530 can do heat racing at the speeds you need!

I am sending the 1530 back for repair. I do love the scheme of Don's boat. May move forward with an extreme kit.

                That's the one.

Truth be told......it's a PIA in the boat. You can't get the motor out without removing the whole mount from the boat. The only way to do that (in my case) is to remove the screws on the sides. Those thread into blind nuts in the rails. It's not impossible or anything but in a hurry?......PIA.

This was my take on a motor mount that makes things easy to service FWIW.
The ply under the mount was sealed and epoxied in the boat.

                    Terry,

From memory we intentionally made the back support ring big enough to clear the fins on a finned 2215 if you removed the silicone tubing cushion. We had thought if the jacket can slide off easily, then you can slide the motor back out, leaving the water jacket in place. In reality water jackets usually don't like coming off.

We could have modified the back bracket to only support on the lower half and use a strap to go over the top.

It doesn't clear the fins. The boat I have it in is so tight it won't allow a jacket either.

For my particular install I didn't care about having a tail support. It's in my Whip40. The tail bracket is actually structure to keep the tub from ripping itself apart like the my first whip.
