Castle motors are mainly made in China as is most of there stuff. The do assemble a few of there esc's in Mexico and the US but they are by no means American made. The mamba is assembled in the US.
The swordfish escs do not have reverse. Atleast the 220, the 240 and 300amp ones do not. I think the swordfish are an excellent alternative and already have a much better track record than Castle if even half of what the tech guy told you. Blaming there failures on the customer is a pretty lame way of really saying there esc's just couldn't stand up to the rigors of rc boating. Good luck with whatever you go with.
I think castles stuff is great. I have a mm2 esc in my mini rivercat thats has served me well. I had it in another boat before that...taxing it hard and didnt even know it. I think that castle just had too many failures on their boat escs and got tired of replacing them. The guy i talked to said he was relieved when they pulled the plug lol. maybe they arent as good as thier other esc's, but im going to try it. ive seen a fair share of swordfish esc issues/failures on here too. Namely two threads popped up today as a matter of fact. I think its a matter of this:
if you buy a $109 esc and it lasts a couple months and it burns up...some people arent going to care much...some people will seek a replacement.
if you buy a $300 esc and it fails in a couple months, you can guarandamntee 99.9% of the poeple that are in this situation are going to seek replacement. Then, castle has a big name and reputaion out there to uphold, so they replace it. See the problem? I do. lol

      I agree
But I know of several Castle failures in my neck of the woods, none boat escs, one in a Trex-700
I don't think I own any at the moment? I do have 4 Swordfish speedo though.. should sell them as I don't have a need for them at the moment

I make them but I can't make you one right now. I'm backed up with work right now. I'm in the middle of setting up my cnc machine which should be able to make them better than I did by hand. I can make you one when I get it up and going.
