I just ordered a Neu 1527 1.5D 1500kv for my new Phil Thomas Stealth Q Hydro build, I like to scream mine a little harder.... Even at that it's only 33300rpm

I know the 1Y is 1250kv and the 1.5D is 1500kv but what would be the difference when the boat is running(ex.more amps, one better for a hydro)? Any difference in the delta windings?

Most experienced racers use the 1Y. I tried the 1.5D as did several other club members, but speeds were no faster and amp draw was higher. You can run a larger prop with the 1Y, an advantage in rough race water. Both will work in a sport hydro, but the lower Kv is a proven winner. IME the 1.5D is a rigger motor.

the 1Y is "THE" proven Q motor, mine and Mike Balls boats are the 2 fastest Q-sport hydros in the country and we run 1Y's. Our boats are both in the mid to high 60s but lose very little speed in the corners. If you are looking for more the only other motor I would try is a 1530/1.5D more power only 100 more rpm but you better have at least 8000mah for decent runtime. I use the 1530 in my Q rigger and its very very fast but it definitely uses more amps!!! D winds usually provide more grunt and are less efficient than a Y wind.

I use the Lehner 2280/5. I run only 5500mah packs and draw out only about 4500mah. It's in the Mis 60's. There is more in it but i can't keep it on the water.

I know you can't argue a 1527 1Y is a great choice. That said don't overlook a Nue 1520 1Y or Castle 1521 1Y. You can get by with a little less ESC and battery weight. Or just not draw as many amps on a stout ESC. On our tunnels we can get by with 5000ma cells in a heat race if you don't prop too large. Ran a 24.86 2 lap a Huntsville with the Castle on 6S. Into the 23's on 7S. Dinogy cells.

IME the 1521-size motors are a bit small for 6S oval racing. They may be great for SAW or 2-lap events, but long heats in rough water put more strain on the motor, and the larger format motors have more mass to handle the heat (and more torque for bigger props). A Q-sized boat has plenty of room for the slightly longer 1527. I understand the advantage of lower motor weight hanging off the transom of an OPC.
