    Thoughts on Castle 1717?

The application would be 6S in a DF Pirate 35". There looks to be lots of new ones on ebay that have been pulled from Traxxas XO-1. Prices don't look too bad either.

Why 6s in a 35" boat? Just curious.

Given the motor being the same, less amps. Any of the motors I'm looking at could run 4s or 6s, but are 2,000-2,500 watts continuous (i.e. not burst).

Sensible. 35" is so borderline. I would have struggled to make up my mind.

I'm still struggling with this and haven't pulled the trigger on much of anything yet. I know 6s2p is going be a tight squeeze.

Since you will be limiting amps, why not 6S1P? There are high-discharge 6000 to 6600 mAh cells which may fit better in the hull yet still have adequate capacity for you. Many of my race boats now run these cells and I have plenty of capacity with them.

Terry, if he ever races then 4S is not an option for him.

The boat will probably never see a race............I know, never say never. Run time is somewhat important, say 5 minutes of sport boating with some SAW to impress the neighbours.

I hate solving problems with my wallet, but ThunderPower has a 7700 mAh 70C pack.

Another thought. A pair of 6s 3700's. Lay one on each side of the stuffing tube and run the motor further forward. Not quite as bad as a pair of 5000's.

3700's are all I need in my Q sport and it's a bit weighty.

I was thinking the same in terms of 6s2p. The 3700mAh and 4400mAh packs only differ in length (Dinogy). I could probably even fit them beside the motor to make getting the CoG at 30%.

I run a 1717 in a DF 35. Been running Dinogy 6s2p 3300's with X646, 5mins is borderline, 4 is not bad. Prop down a bit and it should be doable. Usually run 10,000 mah in her. The 1717 does not care about weight.

And more real world, don't chince out on ESC. I run and use a Castle Ice 240.
                          Just a heads up.

I wasn't thinking of doing so. I'll either get the Castle Ice 240 or Swordfish Pro+ 200. I like the idea of data logging. The Swordfish Pro+ 200 is a great looking ESC, but the idea of an external BEC is putting me off. Are you running an external cap bank? Any pics of under the hatch?

The Hifei Swordfish Pro Plus 220 2s-6s has a BEC, data logging.

Or was there a reason you were going for the 200A 4s-8s?
