    Start with 11 degrees.

Jim, most of us are using 15* with that motor. That value works well, supplying plenty of power and reasonable temperatures. Last weekend I used 15* in my Shadow and was running around 70 mph while pulling just 650 mAh per lap. Temps were not above 120* on anything even though it was 90*F ambient.

Thanks Jay and Larry. Jay, I almost have my Q-hydro together. Might test it out sometime this week after work. I have been traveling a lot lately so not much time for the boats. The good news is I found a big pond that is about 15 minutes from my house so it will be easier to get a few test runs in quickly.

What kind of amp pull should I expect with the Q-hydro? Sounds like it should not be anything too crazy since the MAH you(Jay) stated per lap would make it pretty reasonable. I would like to hook up my Eagletree data logger (150amp) model to get some readings and I am trying to decide if it will survive the run.

          Adding more:Neu 1527/1/Y 1250kv 8mm

I know the prop is critical to the amp draw, but let's assume I am running something that has me in the mid-60's. I will have to get the prop number when I get home.

I glad this topic came up. I am going to run my Phil Thomas SS45 this week too. I have 2 choices on motors the 1527 1Y like most others. I also have a 1527 1.5D also. I plan on running the 1Y first to help get the boat set up.

Can someone reccomend a starting prop?

            Thanks
            Mike

Mike, it will take more but just to get it wet I would start with a 452 on the 1Y.

Mike, for what it is worth, I can give you the prop I am going to use on my Whip 40 when I get home tonight. It is the prop the previous owner used to race with.

Terry is right, the x452 is a great prop for heat racing and a good place to start (and perhaps stop). Most of us who tried the 1527/1.5D went back to the 1Y, the latter has plenty of power and is easier on packs. In the last District race I ran the 1Y at ~70 mph using 4400 mAh in 7 laps plus mill - running 1P/6500mAh packs. I'd need 2P to run the 1.5D safely, and it would probably be no faster than the 1Y is - depending on water conditions.

                      Thanks for the input guys.

Have you guys done any testing with 1400 series of props on sport hulls and FE power?

                      Later,
                      Mike

                        Mike,
The prop I am going to test is a 1455/3 3.91 T.E Cup, 3.10 C.O.B Pitch and 53.85 DIA. It is a Mark Sholund prop and the previous owner of the boat stated it was the prop he was using to race with sucessfully. All I can say, is that it is huge prop compared to the smaller boats I am used to. Chuckle.

55/3 is too much in my opinion. Let us know how it goes though. I tried a 450/3. The motor didn't care at all but my particular boat didn't like the prop.

I've been as high as an x455 but highly modified. I don't have any real numbers to share on that prop.

We need some kind of timing sticky.

                              That is a great idea.
