That motor is a D wind. Try 7.5 or a little lower. I ran my D wind at 7.5 with good results though.

Thanks Dale. I forgot to mention I'm running 4S 2P. I read a thread that recommended 11.25 degrees, so I set it at that. Does any of this change your advice? I'll drop it to 7.5 if you think that's best. JIMJIM MARCUM: NAMBA 777; EX? Seaking 180HV with leopard 3400kv
Im looking at a twin set up, in an Apparition 820mm cat that i have lying around.
I wanted to use 2x leopard 2860 3400kv BL's with 2x Seaking 180A HV esc's on 4S with 2x 4S packs 35-70c for run time and amp draw.
Im trying to brake the 100klm mark. I will be running the 70mm outdrives drives with 4mm shafts and 2x venom 32mm cnc pro alloy props counter rotation set up for less walk.
My question is after reading this thread, is the Seaking 180A hv esc's going to be suitable for the leopard 3400kv motors ? Being 4 pole i didnt think about that.
I wanted to go a higher amp ESC like the 180's as im thinking these days, until i get a data logger, bigger is better for amp draw. 120's would probly be ok, but for the little xtra money and features the 180's sold me to be on the safe side.
Would anybody know the timing setting for these motors with the seaking 180a esc's ? can i place a 63v 1000uf 105'C cap on the esc to make it even better? how do i tell if the motors are 'Y' or 'D' wind motors?Comment

I was gonna reduce timing to 7.5 today but was in a hurry & left it at 11.25. Ran my Apparition thru 4 batts (4S2P) without any motor/ESC desoldering or motor overheating. I did run a separate H2O pickup & changed out the restrictive motor jacket nipples, so that may explain, in part, the temp drop. Will try 7.5 degrees and 3 just to measure the speed difference. So you are saying that I can get more speed in this application by lowering the advance? If so, what would you recommend: 7.5 or 3 degrees? JIMJIM MARCUM: NAMBA 777; EX? No not necessarily more speed, I'm saying more effcient i.e less excess heat and possible lower amp spikes (without data logging you won't be able to tell though), which may increase realibilty, which is more important then speed IMHO... after all speed is just a number right...Comment

Thanks guys, I will buy a data logger. This setup is for SAW racing. The goal here is to break the P Offshore class SAW record. If the motor frys at the end of the second pass & I break the record that's OK with me. Speed is everything in this application. I just don't want my boat taken out by a turtle. Again. Heres an Apparition on 4S with twin lepards, is 2860 the size of the can, and not the KV?
This is what i want to copy for my Apparition wtin set up, seems to be going a fair speed.
Also heres another apparition with similar set up on 6S, say its doing 118 klm.
