If you ever feel uncomfortable cutting or pulling out the connector on an ESC wire, just buy some short 3" servo extensions and cut the red wire on those. Now you never have to mess with the plugs, just put the servo extension between the ESC and Receiver. The Y harness mentioned above can do the same thing for twins.

I ended up pulling all three possible red wires had already done the Y harness then figured I had better do each esc lead to prevent interferrince. and using a sep pack for rx,esc and one for servo....

I am guessing to plug the esc and rx pack into programmer.. Thanks guys!!!

                3 bars?
Are you using Seaking ( Turnigy) 180 ESC and the program box?
If you use a separate receiver pack to program ( I prefer to do that than hooking the ESC to a main lipo pack for the programming) , you insert the trio wire from the ESC into the top right port on the box first, then the batt. pact pos. and neg. wire into the port left of it. ( this step can't be reversed or the program box will not light up)
There are two windows on the box ( left one is like a double window with two panes) , but only two digit will light up, the one has "ITEM" will light up on the right pane, to the right of that is a window marked"VALUE", it will light up as well. They show "1"
Now if you have the BOAT CALIBRATION PANEL that came with your program box ( A sticker) , look at it and see the four buttons under the windows and cycle them thru , press "item" and you should see the "Item"---subject you want to program in the right pane of the larger "ITEM" window and the setting value on the small window show up, then press OK to store it. It will show a "-" briefly to confirm the new value is entered. You do it a few times and should get the hang of it.
On my twin I started out with the props turning inwards first, it ran ok but I will switch to turning out wards next time for more testing. It depends on the hull as well.

Well ive hooked it up as described but all I get is the tree bars across screen if i hook up the main pack the esc beeps...??? but no numbers come up...??? 2 bars on left screen and one on right the bars go straight across Do I need to hook up main pack also??? Thanks Dave and yes it came with the sticker and Im pretty sure its the correct programmer. It was mentioned as the matching programmer so I got it...??? Again thanks

You have the Turnigy 180ESC, that should be the Seaking 180 ESC V2. Do you have the instruction sheet that came with the program box? If so, re-read the first steps of how to connect to a main battery pack and connecting without it but using external receiver pack. The sequence of what to connect first is extremely important. I have done it so many times wrong despite the fact I know it by heart. Also, double check that you have the polarities correct. The trio wire from the ESC goes to the furthest right top one, the other one is meant for external battery pack. But if you use main battery, then you won't be using this one.
On Seaking 180 ESC V3, there is a dedicated port on the ESC for programing and you need to have a male-male servo plug extension wire to hook up to the box, but I am quite sure you have the V2 ESC.
No, if you are using an external receiver pack to program, definitely no need for the main pack.
I hope you are not offended when I told you these, I know you are experienced, I just know from my own experience that I still hook it up wrong from time to time, it is very confusing and not intuitive at all.

No offense taken!! All good! I have tried both esc's and same result with both.... All I get is tree lit leds across middle of two windows... It seems like programmer isnt seeing the programmer ????

I have run into this before, fanged if I can remember which 'DOH' move it was though. If I get a chance today I will play with one and see if I can replicate. I should pull an old boat out anyway.

Ok I tried something different I put the red wire back into the trio and used the main pack well it worked sort of.....I was able to enter programming but I only was giien 4 options to program the programmer has 12 options.... So at this point I am not sure what I am programming I will look at other face-plates maybe that will offer more info...

Not completely sure but I think I got it figured out Not sure if the sticker is wrong or the esc has diff modes than programmer but all apearantly went well. I was able to use both the main pack or the rx pack to program it seems as tho the red wire needs to be in the trio of wires reguardless of the power source...
