Affordable Lipos?

Are there any affordable Lipo battery brands out there?

I was tempted to buy the HK turnigys, but after doing a lot of research and due diligence, they seem to be hit or miss (Miss for the most part).

Are there any lipo battery brands out there that don't cost an arm and a leg and last a while?

I am looking to get 2 2S packs for when I get my Genesis.

Two 4S packs in parallel would be better in that hull,
I have the Daytona hull and it run good like that.

I am not looking for speed right off the bat...I don't want to go fast until I get used to the handling...hence 2 2S packs to start and as I gain confidence, I will move up...

Are you planning on running the 2s pack in series or parallel?

Not sure yet...will probably be running them parallel (Have to put one on each side of the hull, otherwise, from what I have been told, the Genesis will list terribly to one side) I don't think there is any way to run them in series in the Genesis hull, also I am a noob to lipos, so I am not familiar with the terms series and parallel.

Please correct me if I am wrong, as mentioned I am new to lipos, so trying to learn as much as I can.

Running in parallel you will still be at 2s the only difference is that the mah will double. Example 2x 2s lipo 5000mah in parallel is 2s 2p 10000mah. Now if you we're to put them in series it would be 2x2s lipo 5000mah = 4s 5000 mah. Also you can do a series setup with this hull. I have the same hull in Carbon Fiber with 2 4s 5000mah lipos in series for a 8s setup. Also the biggest lipos that I got to fit in my genesis hull was A pair of 5s 5000mah 45-90c Hyperion Lipos.

Ah..I think I understand the difference...if I run it in parallel, by the example you have given me, the 10,000 mah will give me longer run times and if I run it in series, I will get more amps <power as it were> so I will get more speed...is that right?

If I am correct, I don't necessarily want top speed right out of the box, just want to run it with the stock parts until I get the handling down..going from about a 2 foot boat <My Proboat Apache> to a 3 ft Genesis, which is capable of going fast scares me, so I want to start slow as it were and work up

2x2s 4000mah in series will make 4s at 4000mAh
2x2s 4000mAh in parallel will make 2s at 8000mAh
I agree with the above comment that you would be best using 2x4s in parallel.
I'd say minimum 5000mAh 4s 40c.

That's correct. Running in series the voltage will double. Is the genesis your getting a stock setup?

I feel quite uneasy about going fast out of the box, with a boat I don't know yet.

Although, I can see the advantages of going to 4s, that way I don't have to get batteries in the future.

Just apprehensive about speed and how it will handle under the hands of someone who is new to the Genesis and it's potential.

On the stock setup you will be right around 31000rmps on 4s. I'm Guessing Speeds should be between 30-35mph. Someone else might be more accurate on this as I never had a stock genesis and my friends that did upgraded their components before testing it on the stock motor it comes with.

Most of the time when you do a search it comes up with a 1000 things your not even looking for it is so much easier to just ask again

Ok as far as speeds go,
It is all up to you being the driver how fast it go's at any time.
That is what the TX control and and esc control is for.
Just like a real car with a gas pedal,
You ether push on the pedal a lot or a little and that controls you speeds.

Also you could just go with two 3s 40c 5000 packs in parallel to,
Than your top speeds would be maybe in the 30mph range at full throttle.
And than you would still have good run times to.
